The Directory is published: 1. To provide an annual description of orga&ized student life at the University of Minnesota; 2. To facilitate- co:nmunieation and understanding of ea'ch other I s programs among student leaders; 3. To help professional and academic counselors provide informed advice for meeting the recreational, cultural, and social interests of their advisees; 4. To help the administrative and service agencies of the campus to provide effective service to the authorized responsible officers of recognized student organizations. For a~mora detailed description of the program of any group, we recommend con­ sultation with a staff member of the Student Activities Bureau. In listing faculty members who are advisers to groups, no academic titles have been included except for tull Deans and no professit;>nal titles except those for ministers of religions. Please consult the University Staff Address Book for correct academic and professional titles• .j. Extension numbers listed are for Universtty offices. Persons calling from off the campus should first dial FE 2-8158 (for the Minneapolis Campus) and MI 6-4616 (for the St Paul Campus). 4. In the right-hand corner of each organization entry, the next election date has been indicated whenever this information was aVailable. The tenure of the officers listed can be determined by checking this date. Please consult the Student ~ctivities Bureau for the names of new officers. 5. Certain groups unfortunately failed to conply with our repeated requests for officer ~ists, making it impossible to list officers for them. In these cases we have endeavored to cite some contact person who can pro­ vide information about the group upon request. Student members are recommended for appointment by the All-University Congress. Students interested· in serving on one of these .committees should file an application at the Congress Office, Room 213, Coffman Union. Appointments for the academic year 1958-59 will be made during Spring Quarter, 1958. -)- SENATE COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION This committee seeks ways in which the educational work of the University may be improved. James Greeno Wayne Anderson SENATE COMMITTEE ON SCHOLASTIC STANDING This committee studies and recommends to the University Senate general rules and regulations of a University-wide scope concerning students' scholastic standing. Bob Nath Chuck Andrews SENATE COWtfITTEE ON STUDENT AFFAIRS This standing committee made up of faculty, students and alumni has general supervision over student affairs. The Committee writes and interprets policies governing student activities, acts upon applications for recognition and di,­ establishment of student organizations, and considers appeals from administrative decisions.
