Annual Report January 2008 - June 2008 Message from the Chair and the President A message from Claude Lamoureux A Message from Veronica Lacey Chair, Board of Directors President and CEO The Learning Partnership The Learning Partnership This past year has been another glowing reminder that The Learning Partnership (TLP), along with our partners, is making a positive difference to young people and their families across Canada. We pride ourselves on providing opportunities to our students and education leaders through innovative programs, executive leadership, credible research, policy initiatives and public engagement. At a meeting, earlier this year, TLP’s Board of Directors approved a change in the charity’s fiscal year-end date. The new fiscal year of TLP begins July 1 and continues through to June 30 of the following year. The change was implemented to align TLP’s fiscal year with the school year. This “Annual Report” covers the six month period of January 1, 2008 to June 30, 2008 – a shortened year, to now start the new cycle. Through the work of a dedicated staff, volunteers and supporters, The Learning Partnership has reached 740,000 students, 1 million families, 15,500 educators, 61 school boards, 1,800 schools, 1,800 volunteers and 80,000 businesses this year. With over 75 staff members, located in 11 centres across Canada, TLP has operations in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, North Bay, Ottawa, Montreal, Fredericton, Halifax and St. John’s. We are truly a national organization dedicated to strengthening public education. We are thankful to our Board of Directors. Each Board Member is committed to their role and to the betterment of the organization. We believe that no other organization brings together as many people with as many positive outcomes for our youth. We have been successful in bringing together students, teachers, schools, school boards, business, government and labour and these efforts are continually producing outstanding results. We thank all of you for your support. Your commitment and involvement will ensure that we are afforded the opportunity to ensure that every student of public education is equipped with both the ability and opportunity to strive for personal excellence and to reach their potential.
