4 2 D E G R E E S C O A C H I N G | I S S U E 2 4 WEDNESDAY WOOP WOOP Your friendly weekly check in What's inside this issue: Track Is Back Le Tour Culture Trip Turbo Time Film Of The Week Best Bits Well hasn't that been an interesting 24 weeks. Hard to believe we've published 24 issues but for now it's time to shift the focus back to training and racing and doing what we all do best. THAT'S A I hope you have enjoyed reading them as much as we have enjoyed finding and sharing some different content for you. We've always aimed to have a little something for everyone. Allowing WOOP WOOP yourself some head space and quality time to switch off from the wider world has never been more important and hopefully we've WRAP! played a small part in that. This is not to say there may not be future issues but let's meet up in person (socially distanced of course) and share stories and ride our bikes instead. Remember, Think Track, Think 42 Degrees. TRACK IS BACK Well, well, well .... you lot really do love your track sessions. Thank you so much for supporting the return to track, I'm honestly blown away by the Big Love out there. TRACK IS BACK! These sessions are open for all abilities and ages. The only aim is for everyone to enjoy being back on the track in the sun (mostly sunshine, this is Wales afterall). So, to recap we have for the next month, the following quality sessions, all at Maindy Cycle Track - Cardiff. Wednesday's: 5:00pm - 7:00pm Primarily for road bikes but I can accommodate sprinters on track bikes Saturday's: 1:00pm - 4:00pm Endurance & Sprinters, track bikes only Friday 11th & 18th Sep: 6:00pm - 8:00pm Sprinters - Coach Led Racing I have increased the early bird spaces due to the popularity. Spots on the sessions are purely on a first come first serve basis, so it's advisable to pre-book where you can to guarantee your place. To book your spot, click here. The remaining spaces for each session will open up a week in advance, so keep your eyes peeled and I can't wait to welcome you back to track. ... Think Track, Think 42 Degrees As alway also: All current guidance from British Cycling can be found here. LE TOUR As we see Le Tour underway after it's delayed start from the usual July departure, it's good to remember that it hasn't always been dominated by the "super teams". A lot has changed over the years and one thing that is for sure is that technology in 1989 changed Le Tour forever. When Greg LeMond (the 1986 winner), overcame a 50 second deficit on the final day’s time trial he beat the two-time champion Laurent Fignon. LeMond’s average speed for the course was 54.55 kilometres per hour, was the second fastest time trial ever ridden on Le Tour and he needed every bit of it to win in the end by just 8 seconds. Relive those final moments here CULTURE TRIP Palace of Caserta You'd be forgiven for mistaking this picture perfect palace for that of Versaille and there's good reason for that. Combining the influences of Versailles, Rome, and Tuscany, the Caserta Royal Palace and Park, north of Naples, was designed according to the wishes of Charles of Bourbon III by Luigi Vanvitelli, one of the greatest Italian architects of the 18th century. Caserta is considered a triumph of Italian Baroque, and ahead of its time. Expanding across 11 acres, the garden's pools, fountains and cascades are aligned through a 'telescope effect', extending as far as the eye can see. Fingers crossed, I'll be seeing this in all it's glory this week and don't doubt that it will live up to all expectations. To learn more about the palace, hit it up opposite. TURBO TIME It's 1993 and from day one this became a classic. Nirvana unplugged was filmed in New York and is still one of the best live music moments in modern history that very nearly didn't happen. Luckily for us though it went ahead, we see a sombre but captivating Kurt Cobain and a smooth faced Dave Grohl doing what he does best on the drums ... It's just a absolute joy. Turn it up,clip in and enjoy FILM OF THE WEEK Venom Based on Marvel Comics character, Tom Brady plays a reporter battling a mad scientist in a fight for his life after merging with a snarky alien symbiote that gives him remarkable superpowers. Switch the Brain off and Enjoy. I actually really enjoyed this even being a family film but I love a bit of Marvel anyway. Grab a Californication and chill. Available now on Netflix WOOP WOOP'S BEST BITS 5. In at number 5 we have the interview with Missy "The Missile" Giove. After paving the way for the modern day athletes, Missy shares interesting insight into her life after racing (linked). It seems that you lot love an easy bake and in at number 4. 4 are the 2 ingredient pancakes that were a huge hit. Recap on these easy go to: 2 eggs and 1 banana (bit of vanilla goes in nicely too if you want to zhuzh it up), mix and cook in a lightly oiled pan for 1 minute each side .... et voila! 3. In at 3 is the book that many of you went out and bought, Talking To Strangers by the acclaimed Malcolm Gladwell. It makes me so happy that you all love a good informative book as much as I do. If you haven't done so already, pop this book onto your reading list and if you already have, take a look at Malcolm's other books In at number 2 we all got our nerd on taking in the 2. process of how Vittoria tubs are made. The process is one of hand made quality throughout and this is reflected in the quality and speed they provide (linked opposite) 1. Taking the top spot of the most popular item included in the Woop, was the legend that is David Bowie and the headline set at Glastonbury 2000. Always truly unique and true to himself, this set was just that and some more. If you have a spare couple of hours the take a step back 20 years and enjoy..
