Towards the backend of the season it was with regret the Board accepted our then President, Shayne Bennett’s resignation due additional business commitments and in-part health. Shayne as many of us know, is all or nothing and his expressed passion for the game on every level certainly motivated all that were in contact with him. His unquestionable dedication has created pathways on many levels for the game to prosper both on and off the diamond. For that we thank Shayne for his commitment to the role of President over the past 3 years and wish him and his family well. The Board also received notice from Bob Neiswander, Youth Director that he would not be re nominating. The Board and Baseball community would like to thank Bob for his 16 years of tireless work and passion towards growing youth baseball in SA. Bob has worked on every level promoting our game within schools, government and with other States. We wish you well in your Board retirement. The integration with the Adelaide BITE, is still in transition and will be completed by the start of the 2014/15 season. Once in situ the infrastructure will allow for greater efficiencies and improved serviceability to all our members and affiliates. Diamond Sports precinct has finally received the last sign fof for construction and we will see earth turn in late July with the indicative Baseball move in date 1st May 2015. This will mean Academy, State Teams and Charter Teams as well as Clubs will be able to utilize the facility leading up to tournaments and season 2015/16. Sustainability is the word often used in the market today and that is very much the necessary requirement for SABL. A purpose built facility will allow for positive forecasting from a range of opportunities that will open for external revenue streams. Some of the key areas the Board continues to focus on is implementation of a robust strategic plan, refine our governance documents, implement a communications policy, and undertake risk assessment evaluation. Our ability to attract sponsorship and corporate support was a focus and resulted in a $22,226 increase on 2012/13 figures. CBA came on board as a major contributor and we appreciate their support. As the integration between SABL and BITE strengths so too will the opportunity to leverage on either for corporate support. On behalf of the Board, I would like to once again like to acknowledge Phil Alexander as a BA Hall of Fame Inductee. Phil becomes SA 16th inductee and 14th player inductee. Congratulations to all the winners of individual awards and premiership teams. A warm thank you to volunteers and officials which allow the game to be played and enjoyed by over 3500 weekly. Finally thank you to the Staff and Board for working through 2013/2014 season and continuing to drive baseball in a positive direction. Mark Snelgrove President (Acting) 7 South Australian Baseball League Inc • CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER Report First and foremost Baseball SA was extremely honored to receive a second grant with the South Australian Government for our project at West Beach in conjunction with Softball SA. In February we were granted another $2 million. We thank all the efforts from the Office of Recreation and Sport, Paul Anderson, Adelaide Shores, the Hon Minister Bignall, SABL staff, Board and the newly formed Diamond Sports SA Board for their hard work in securing this funding. Baseball SA had a rather rough start to the 2013/14 season with the departure of operational staff; implantation of new systems, re-branding all put us on the back foot before the season started. However we have come a long way over the past 12 months; it has been a year of change, one that will cement our future of baseball here in SA. I will not say it has been a perfect year for the league and its clubs, but I can certainly express that we are on the way to ensuring baseball remains strong in our state. Operations: The ABF introduced a new sports management system to the business in July, incorporating the registering of members, websites right through to the competition management (scoring). In July and August, Jessica (Administration) and I set out to visit all metro and regional clubs within SA to set up their online registering of players. This new system allowed for all payments to be taken online and the opportunity for clubs to manage their clubs fees. The learning of this new system was far too close to the season opening and certainly did put pressure on all clubs to understand and operate. Overall South Australia produced great results from the use of this new system and IMG continue to work closely with our state as a test to improve its ability/functions. Not only was a new database introduced, but Baseball Australia re-branded their image and marketing materials through a new logo for all states. This also tied in with the launch of a new state website and club websites. Progress is still continuing in this area, with the completion of the competition management system before the season commences. Human Resources: The league office has continued to re-structure and integrate with theAdelaide Bite over the past 12 months. During this time we said farewell to the following staff members who thank for their efforts and wish them well in their chosen paths; • Paul Chandler – went on to pursue other interests • Lorraine Dunn – Off to enjoy retirement • Warwick Marks – was instrumental in forming the SABA program has gone onto pursue other interests • Jake O’Conner – Returned to the USA to continue his schooling We were pleased to welcome Matt Williams from NSW into our team as the new Baseball Coordinator in September.
