I LANDS AND FORESTS RESEARCH SOURCES Compiled and edited by Margaret A. Whalen, Maine State Archives Published under Appropriation 04065.1 FOREWORD Integral to the development of this Country since the pioneer settlements of the 15th century, lands and forests are inter woven in the fabric of Maine history. In his Report of the Archives of Maine, 1908, Allen Johnson wrote, "The relation of the Union to the Western domain is foreshadowed in the dealing of the General Court (of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts) with this border province." In the course of time and events, documentation of Maine's lands and forests have produced the records that are fundamental in historical research. The select bibliography (to 1979) offered here is intended as a guide in the use of documentary and interpretive sources on this sUbject for various research purposes.
