The Management Committee believed that it was appropriate to change the constitution to allow flexibility when there is a nomination for life membership, rather than being restricted to only considering such nominations at the Annual General Meeting. The SGM duly unanimously approved the change to the constitution. The second item on the agenda of the SGM was to consider the nomination of Lee Prescott for life membership. This is the citation that was presented to the SGM: NOMINATION OF LEE PRESCOTT FOR LIFE MEMBERSHIP Lee Prescott first became involved with Sutherland DCC in the 1992-93 season, when she started helping with the scoreboard at the then Caringbah Oval. She has helped with the scoreboard ever since, firstly the old scoreboard on the hill in the northwest corner of the oval and then the new scoreboard that was built in 1997. The only times she has not been on the board have been for occasional illness or injury and holidays. Her cheerful disposition and enthusiasm for the task are legendary. Certainly, the players have appreciated her efforts, whether it be 1st Grade, 2nd Grade or Poidevin-Gray Shield. Lee’s contribution to Sutherland DCC over the last 27 years has been outstanding. She is a most worthy candidate for life membership of the Club and I am delighted to nominate her. She deserves your unanimous support. The nomination was unanimously approved to enthusiastic applause and Lee was presented with her life membership mirror, which now hangs proudly in her living room. To the members of SUTHERLAND DISTRICT CRICKET CLUB, INC. The Management Committee has much pleasure in presenting for your consideration and adoption the Fifty-Fourth Annual Report and Financial Statements. SEASON SUMMARY Last season, we wrote that first grade’s performances gave us “cause to look forward to 2018-19 with great anticipation”. That showed great foresight, as first grade finished sixth in the main competition (after an amazing sequence of results in the final round), won our first T20 Cup and made the semi-finals at the inaugural National Premier T20 Championship in Adelaide in early March. The scenes at the SCG as we comprehensively defeated St.George in the Sixers Conference final and then Sydney University in the T20 Cup final will live long in the memory for all who were there. The team handled themselves very well at the NPT20, losing to eventual champions Carlton (Victoria) in a high-scoring semi-final. In the main competition, we were in equal 14th position with three rounds to play. We won our next two matches but were still in 10th position. We had to beat the 8th-placed team and needed the 6th, 7th & 9th-placed teams to all lose to finish in 6th place. It all happened! Unfortunately, the qualifying final was interrupted by rain on day one and completely washed out on day two, resulting in our elimination as the lower-placed team. Captain Chris Williams had an outstanding season, scoring 909 runs in all competitions, while Daniel Fallins took 50 wickets and Tom Pinson took 45 wickets in all competitions. Steve Smith made a much-appreciated return to our playing ranks and had a significant impact. He scored 636 runs, took 14 wickets and took 16 catches in all competitions. The impact he had on the team was highlighted at the SCG on T20 finals day, as he led the side to the premiership in the absence of regular T20 captain Ben Dwarshuis who, along with Shane Watson, was playing a Sixers vs Thunder BBL practice match at Sydney Showground. His experience was evident in the way he captained the team and it was great to see him win his first premiership with the club. His willingness to travel with the team to Adelaide to act as coach for the NPT20 Championships when he was recovering from elbow surgery epitomised his commitment to the club during his absence from the representative playing ranks. Second grade made significant improvements this season, rising from last place in the last two seasons to a very respectable eighth place, only four points out of the top six. Daniel Rixon used his considerable experience to lead the way with 651 runs and 22 wickets.
