THEATRE OF THE PERFORMING ARTS OF SHREVEPORT 12th Annual Yazzy Youth Celebrating Jazz Concert “A Salute to Quincy Jones” Join the students and faculty of Theatre of the Performing Arts of Shreveport (TPA) as we present our 12th annual Yazzy Youth Celebrating Jazz Concert on Friday, May 9, 2014, 7:00 pm, at The Riverview Theatre, 600 Clyde Fant Parkway, in downtown Shreveport. This year’s theme is “A Salute to Quincy Jones.” Our guest artists include Leon Anderson Jr., drummer and Shreveport native residing in Tallahassee, FL. Mr. Anderson is Director of Jazz Studies at Florida State University. Accompanying Leon Anderson are fellow band members Brenden Polk on piano and Brandon Robertson on upright bass. Brenden and Brandon also perform in other musical groups that play throughout the Southeastern United States ranging from Florida to New York City. Shreveport’s own Larry Pierson, owner of the Larry Pierson School of Music serves as our Project Coordinator. The Yazzy Youth Celebrating Jazz Concert is designed to highlight local talented youth collaborating with renowned professional artists. This year's musical tribute focuses on the legendary Quincy Jones, “the best friend a song ever had.” We are asking everyone to come out and help us celebrate this legendary musician and to support our children in their quest to become great artists. The show will be a wonderful display of some of the many facets of Mr. Quincy Jones from writing to arranging to music production to movie and television production to his mentoring and worldwide involvement in the betterment of mankind. Theatre of the Performing Arts’ Yazzy participants continue to develop and surprise our audiences with their growing interpretation of styles taught in instrumental music, drama, vocal ensemble and dance by our most capable instructors who are dedicated to assuring quality in all of our presentations. The growth we continue to observe is incredible and it is our hope that more students in our communities will embrace the opportunity that we offer. Theatre of the Performing Arts cannot successfully exist without the talented youngsters we have been blessed to work with. We also salute the parents who have trusted their children in our care and with our organization. Adult tickets (18 & up) are $20.00. Group rates are available (20 adults or more) at $15.00 each. Children/Youth (17 & under) tickets are $10.00.
