Members are advised that the Lough Neagh Partnership has invited representation from the Council to attend a conference to discuss the main issues associated with Lough Neagh. It is a full day conference with all of our local parties giving their policy perspective on the Lough and representatives from the main government departments and local stakeholders explaining their present roles and responsibilities. 2. The intention of the conference is to find new agreed cross-party policies which can help address the real social, economic, safety and environmental needs of the Lough. 3. The venue is the Lough Neagh Discovery Centre and timings are 0930-1630 hrs. 4. There is no cost to attend but for ease of catering, the organisers have asked for attendees to register. Recommendation: It is recommended that the Chairman and/or Vice Chairman or their nominees be nominated to attend. APPENDICES: None HAS IT BEEN SUBJECT TO CALL IN TO DATE? No If Yes, please insert date: Leisure & Community Development Committee rd 3 March 2020 Report from: Head of Parks & Amenities Item for Noting TITLE: Item 5.2 Mayor’s Parade & Family Fun Day – Saturday 9th May 2020 Background and Key Issues: 1. Members are advised that the Mayor’s Parade and Family Fun Day will be held on Saturday 9th May. Normal procedure has been to close Wallace Park to the public the day prior to the event to enable the park to be made ready in a safe environment. 2. This year however, the Bank Holiday has been moved to Friday 8th May which means that the park would be closed on the Bank Holiday (Friday), which is not ideal, not least because of the disruption to the public on a May Bank Holiday but also to due to the impact on wage budgets which will be incurred. 3. To mitigate this, every effort will be made to set up on the Thursday, however it is inevitable that there will still be a level of disruption on the Friday. Officers will look at further measures to maintain access to the children’s play park throughout the day. Recommendation It is recommended that Members note that while every effort will be made to minimize the extent, there may be restrictions on the use of Wallace Park on the Bank Holiday, Friday 8th May to accommodate set up arrangements ahead of the Mayor’s Parade & Family Fun Day on 9th May 2020. Finance and Resource Implications: Additional wage costs due to event set up on a Bank Holiday. Screening: Equality and Environmental Rural Good Relations No Impact No Impact No Assessment Assessment SUBJECT TO PLANNING APPROVAL: No If Yes, “This is a decision of this Committee only. Members of the Planning Committee are not bound by the decision of this Committee. Members of the Planning Committee shall consider any related planning application in accordance with the applicable legislation and with an open mind, taking into account all relevant matters and leaving out irrelevant consideration”. APPENDICES: None HAS IT BEEN SUBJECT TO CALL IN TO DATE? No If Yes, please insert date: Leisure and Community Development Committee rd 3 March 2020 Report from: Head of Communities Item for Decision TITLE: Item 6.1 NIHE Community Safety Strategy 2020-2023 Background and Key Issues: Members are advised that the Board of the Housing Executive approved the draft Community Safety Strategy 2020-2023 ‘Working Together for safer Communities’ for release for external consultation in December 2019. The closing date for submission of a response is Friday 13th March 2020. The strategy builds on strategic themes from the previous strategy, ‘Safer Together’ and outlines the context and the three key aims, for delivery moving forward, as noted below: 1. Building Community Confidence 2. Ensuring Local Solutions 3. Working together The document outlines the legislative context, what is currently happening and what the action plan aims to deliver, whilst focusing on the importance of working together to realise change. There is a significant emphasis on partnership working and implementing local solutions. There are a number of actions related to working collaboratively with the PCSP, which is welcomed however there is limited detail on the long term opportunities that Community Planning can realise to promote community safety.
