Balasooriya, aforetime was a Medical Laboratory Technologist by profession and on the necessity of the service he got a transfer to Base Hospital, Puttalam on 17th of September, 1998. He identified the requirement of an effective and efficient medical service to Puttalam area and has paid his attention on initiating a Medical Laboratory in a rented small shop committing his hours after duty and government holidays. After about 1 ½ years from the commencement, he recruited an assistant for the laboratory and registered at the Business Registrar as “Balasooriya Medical Centre” becoming a legitimate institute. THE EXPANSION By 2009, the Specialist Consultants Channeling service was commenced together with the medical laboratory from a rented house at No.95, Kurunegla Road, Puttalam. Further it added facilities such as ECG, X-RAY, SCANNING etc. and it led the way to increase the staff up to eight (08). By that time Balasooriya Medical Centre was successful to the extent of winning the hearts of people in the area as a trustworthy medical service provider. MODERNIZATION Until 2009, absence of a completed hospital was a huge weakness highlighted in Puttalam apart from Base Hospital. As a result of that, Mr. B.M.A.P.G. Balasooriya put forward a plan of establishing a full facilitated hospital by bridging the gap between needs and wants of people in Puttalam. With that intension this small scale service provider was registered as a private company namely “Balasooiya Hospitals Pvt Ltd” on 19th of January, 2010. It was the first medical project in North Western Province which was approved by Sri Lanka Board of Investment. At the same time, it made path for about 50 and 40 direct and indirect job opportunities respectively. This commits for large number of people not only in Puttalam but also in faraway areas like Anuradhapura, Wawniya, Nikaweratiya, Kalpitiya, Anamaduwa, Wennapuwa and Chilaw etc. in providing most efficient, effective medical service based on modern technology which are at the time limited to Colombo as per our mission.
