Acquisition Information Guide to the Bernard Herrmann PA Mss 46 2 radio and television music, 1936-1959 Donated by Daugherty, 19-- Biography Though known primarily for his film scores, Bernard Herrmann (born 1931, New York City) began his career scoring radio dramas. After founding the New Chamber Orchestra in 1931 Herrmann was hired as a staff arranger and conductor at CBS Radio in 1933. He soon became involved in the scoring of radio dramas with the innovative and experimental series Columbia Workshop. He also worked with Orson Welles as music director of the Mercury Theater of the Air. His early work in radio gained him the notoriety to move onto scoring films but he continued to score for radio and later for television. Collection Scope and Content Summary The collection is divided in eight series: Series I: Campbell Playhouse; Series II: Columbia Presents Corwin; Series III: Columbia Workshop; Series IV: Crime Classics; Series V: Have Gun - Will Travel; Series VI: Mercury Theatre on the air; Series VII Suspense; Series VIII: Miscellaneous.
