When the theatre launched its first Saturday Summer Music Series (SSMS) in 2011, few people likely anticipated the extent to which its summer programming would add to the social and cultural life of Bonavista and the region. Today many area residents and visitors incorporate the Garrick's schedule into their summer plans, ensuring that they see the performances on their wish list. The theatre also has value for musicians; its commitment to presenting a broad range of musical genres in a regular weekly format provides both established and emerging artists with opportunities to perform in a soft-seat venue that can be difficult to find in summer. This year's offerings will not disappoint. You will find accomplished musicians in our two weekly programs: the long standing SSMS and the more recent Thursdays on Church. There are also two special Wednesday performances. On July 25th Tim Baker - the talented founder and frontman of the much heralded “Hey Rosetta” - will take the main stage, as will Anita Best and Sandy Morris on August 1, presenting their new album of traditional songs that they have been performing beautifully together for many years. The Garrick’s Live on the Lawn – a series of free afternoon concerts created in partnership with Parks Canada and Provincial Historic Sites – is held at the Ryan Premises National Historic Site and the Mockbeggar Plantation Provincial Historic Site. If you are in the mood for a good movie, you may want to try Side Door Cinema at the Garrick Annex on Fridays nights. This series features both local and international films that offer exceptional writing, acting and direction. This program provides dedicated pages for each series, but you may wish to begin with the “Handy List of Everything”, a chronological compilation of all events near the back of the document. As always, we are grateful to the Town of Bonavista for its annual support, and to the many loyal donors, sponsors, volunteers, staff, artists, partners and patrons whose combined contributions make the Garrick a vibrant place. We look forward to seeing you at the Garrick this summer. In fact, they’ve built a business with that same sense of commitment and dedication in mind. They work hard to provide outstanding service to all their clients in a tailored, timely, and efficient manner by a team of professionals that genuinely enjoys working together. Their professionalism, courtesy, and excellence extends not only to their clients, but to their team and community. And much like the Garrick, their accounting firm greatly appreciates the support of its clients and partners. They also understand the value of the Garrick. Stephen notes that, “growing up in Bonavista and having spent many nights at the Garrick Theatre, we know its importance to the community and what it is to be part of something special. Seeing it evolve into the beautiful venue it is today brings a great sense of pride to us and our hometown.” Michael couldn't agree more. “We are honoured, ” he says, “to support the Garrick in continuing its work as a shining light in the community.” THE GARRICK is a multi-use cultural facility located in the heart of Bonavista, Newfoundland. Bell did when, in 1933, he took over a then bankrupt food brokerage business. Bell expanded the company’s portfolio, initially through the addition of new grocery brands and later by adding commercial and recreational marine products. Today, under the direction of Bell's descendants, including Chairman and son Randy Bell, the Bell Group of Companies operates throughout Atlantic Canada, focusing on four key areas: retail, wholesale, distribution and real estate. “An important part of our success is the support we receive from the people of Newfoundland and Labrador” says Randy Bell. “In return, we like to give back by supporting community-led initiatives like the Garrick Theatre. We are delighted to be a Platinum Sponsor this year and look forward to this coming season”. FOUR SERIES. ENDLESS CHOICE. From award-winning musicians and rising stars to independent film.
