Be Awesome, Be Nova is a sequence of videos and activities which will help children understand what Nova is like and work through some of the common thoughts and feelings which Year 6 children have in preparing to move on to secondary school. Each of the videos is led by a member of our Senior Leadership Team or House Team so that your child will get to know some faces of our staff before they join us in September. Be Awesome, Be Nova contains videos and workbooks which can be used by students and parents at home or in school with teachers in class. It is designed to be motivational, helpful, and reassuring and to help young people feel valued, cared for, encouraged, and equipped for the journey ahead. A project from PiXL Club and Hachette Children’s Group, the resources are based on bestselling children’s books You Are Awesome by Matthew Syed and Go Big: The secondary school survival guide by Matthew Burton. At Nova Hreod Academy we appreciate how difficult it must be for year 6 not having access to our normal transition programme of transition days, roadshows from our staff and students and of course our students’ and parents’ transition evening. Whilst this project cannot replace these, we have chosen 5 aspects of the project that we feel are crucial to a successful transition from primary to secondary school. Session 1: Introduction to being awesome, being Nova Session 2: Growth mindset Session 3: Making the change Session 4: “Bounce-back-ability” Session 5: Friendships The first and second videos have been published on the transition page of the website www.novahreodacademy.org.uk/about-nova/admissions/year-6-transition and new sessions will be added fortnightly.
