THE PITCHING MATCH-UP: RHP Josias De Los Santos (2-6, 5.06 ERA) vs. RHP Alan Rangel (9-5, 4.51 ERA) De Los Santos: Allowed three runs on four hits over 5.2 innings with four strikeouts 7/31 vs. GBO Rangel: Lasted just one inning and gave up two runs on three hits in last start 7/31 at Hagerstown PENA HOMERS IN 7-2 LOSS: Onil Pena blasted a solo homer in the ninth inning, but West Virginia was outslugged CURRENT HOMESTAND by the Rome Braves, 7-2, Sunday afternoon at Appalachian Power Park. Rome struck first in the opening frame, as Record: 2-3 Season Highs Greg Cullen stroked a two-out RBI single to make it 1-0 Braves. Evan Johnson rebounded to toss a scoreless second Batting Statistics: Batting Statistics: inning, but Rome managed to extend their lead in the third thanks to Griffin Benson’s two-run double, another two-out AVG: .261 (43-for-165) AVG: .266 (55-for-207) knock, to push their cushion to 3-0. The Power finally snapped the BB: 18 BB: 34 shutout in the eighth inning, as Jake Anchia drove in a run on a fielder’s choice. Pena’s solo shot brought West Virginia SO: 49 High SO: 78/Low SO: 35 within five, but Jose Montilla closed out the ninth to cap a three-inning save, his fourth of the season. SB: 0 SB: 6 Defensive Statistics: Defensive Statistics: HONEY BUNCHES OF HITS: Since the start of his season-long 18-game hitting streak July 3 (ended July 23), W-L: 2-3 W-L: 6-1 Bobby Honeyman has been one of the most consistent hitters in the South Atlantic League. He has reached base safely ERA: 4.00 ERA: 1.93 in 26 of his 27 games in that stretch, tied for the third-most games played by any slugger in the league (Terrin Vavra, Quality Starts: 2 Quality Starts: 3 (3x) IP: 45.0 IP: 65.0 29, Asheville). In this span, Honeyman is averaging .384 (43-for-112), the second-highest mark in the league, with H: 44 H: 88 two homers, 18 RBI, 20 runs scored and just 12 strikeouts. The Stony Brook product is now in the midst of his fourth R: 24 High R: 57/Low R: 16 hitting streak of at least eight games or more this year, as well as West Virginia’s ninth overall. Honeyman is boasting ER: 20 High ER: 48/Low ER: 12 a .516 (16-for-31) clip during his streak with five RBI and six multi-hit games. The HR: 4 High HR: 10/Low HR: 3 Mariners’ fifth-round selection has now reached base safely in 16 of his 18 games with the Power, as well as 36 of his Errors: 8 High Errors: 11/Low E: 1 first 39 professional games. The newly-minted 29th-best prospect in the Mariners system per MLB.com is boasting a 2019 VS. Since that ballgame, the New Jersey native is averaging .339 (37- August 4 Charleston 7-2, Loss for-119), the sixth-best average in the SAL in that span, with three homers, 14 RBI and 18 runs scored, as well as hits August 5 Charleston 7:05 p.m. in 22 of those 25 games.
