Bluff Hill Vegetation and Plant List Vegetation Summary Bluff Hill/Motupohue has vegetation more like Stewart Island than the mainland Southland region. Bluff Hill is a coastal environment with a wide range of habitats from mature rata kamahi forest, coastal fuchsia/Olearia shrubland and manuka shrubland. The vegetation rises from sea level where it is lashed by wind and salt spray, through shrubland and forest to the summit of the hill at 265 metres. Tracks and Interpretation There are four main tracks on Bluff Hill starting at the famous Bluff Signpost – the Foveaux Walkway around the coastal part of the hill, the Glory Track which takes in the magnificent rata, kamahi, rimu forest and the Millenium and Topuni Tracks which go to the top of Bluff Hill through regenerating shrubland. Glory Track fine example of old growth rata forest – resplendent in crimson flowers in January and with good interpretation signs.
