Make ties by sewing right sides together then turning right side out. 2. Form ruffle by sewing two pieces together to form one long piece, fold in half length-wise with wrong sides together, run gathering stitch (long machine stitch) with raw edges together. 3. Apply ruffle to side and bottom edges of apron, gathering up the ruffle to fit and discarding extra ruffle. 4. Prepare pocket and topstitch onto apron. Sew on button. 5. With right sides together stitch waistband to top edge of apron, folding ends of waistband under to be even with edge of ruffle. Fold waistband to inside and pin barely over seam. On right side of apron, topstitch waistband near seam line. 6. Insert ties into ends of waistband and stitch across. Almost Amish Apron, Detailed Instructions 1. Fabric amounts and cutting of pieces are shown below. 9” Selvages Pocket 9” Ruffle Ruffle Tie Tie 22” waistband Body of Apron (cut 1) 13 ¼” Fold 4” 4” 4 ¾ ” 4 ¾ ” 5” 19” 3/4 yd red fabric for ruffles, ties, waistband, and pocket 5/8 yd floral fabric for body of apron 2. Fold tie in half length-wise right sides together and press. Stitch long edge and one short edge 1/2” from raw edge. Turn right side out. Press. Same for other tie. 3. Stitch two ruffle pieces together at short edge. Fold resulting long ruffle piece in half length- wise wrong sides together. Run a gathering stitch 3/8” from raw edges using a long machine stitch. 4. Pin ruffle to right side of main apron piece outer edge with raw edges together, pulling up gathering stitches to fit. Stitch 1/2” from raw edges. Finish the seam with a zig-zag stitch or using a serger. Turn ruffle to outside and press seam toward apron. On right side, topstitch apron 3/8” from seam line. 5. With right sides together, stitch two pocket pieces together 1/2” from raw edges, leaving 2” opening at bottom of pocket. Turn right side out and press. Create pleat at top of pocket by folding to center. 6. Place pocket on apron and stitch in place around side and bottom edges 1/8” from edges. Hand sew button in place. 7. With right sides together, pin unpressed edge of waistband to apron top edge matching centers. Fold ends of waistband in (approx 1/2”) so that folded ends of waistband align with edge of ruffle. Stitch 1/2” from raw edges across top of apron. Press waistband up and press seam toward waistband. Fold waistband over to wrong side of apron and pin pressed edge of waistband barely over the seam. Press. From right side of apron, topstitch on the waistband ¼” from seam line. 8. Insert tie end into side opening of waistband. Stitch in place. Repeat for other tie. Your apron is finished! .
