The committee includes the chair of the firm and an additional member of Mayer Brown’s Management Committee, our managing partner, the co-chairs of the Committee on Professional Advancement, partners from all US offices, including the partner responsible for recruiting in each office, the Global Chief Human Resources Officer and the firm’s full-time US Director of Diversity & Inclusion . The committee’s objective is to design, implement and monitor the progress of our diversity initiatives, and its efforts include: • Planning extensive outreach programs, diversity training and professional development programs for our diverse lawyers • Promoting lawyer participation in diversity panels and symposia • Overseeing sponsorships of organizations that promote diversity in the legal profession • Mentoring diverse associates • Implementing measures for the successful recruitment, retention and promotion of diverse lawyers “Mayer Brown consistently seeks innovative and effective ways to build and support a diverse and inclusive work environment. We recruit, develop and promote the highest- caliber lawyers and staff and are committed to providing them with opportunities to realize their full potential .” Jeremiah DeBerry Partner and Director of Diversity & Inclusion, US 2 Diversity & Inclusion | 2018 Year in Review Corporate Social Responsibility Steering Committee, London Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Steering Committee makes diver- sity and inclusion a top priority for our London office. The Steering Commit- tee spearheads Mayer Brown’s employability programs, which are designed to provide opportunities for people from a variety of backgrounds, and help break down biases and prejudices . In addition, the Steering Committee pro- vides a forum for individual networks to pool their resources and maximize their impact on inclusion efforts across the firm. “Our affinity, network and resource groups help drive forward the firm’s diversity programs. They provide valuable insights and feedback, which in turn promote diversity awareness and inform our recruitment, development and wider people strategies .” Annette Sheridan Global Chief Human Resources Officer, London Diversity & Inclusion Committee, Asia The Diversity & Inclusion Committee is comprised of partners, associates and support staff . The committee works to promote and maintain a culture that values the differences that all staff bring to the Asia offices. “We are working together to build an environment where diversity and inclusion, together with all the benefits and strengths they bring, happen naturally .” Hong Tran Partner, Hong Kong 2018 YEAR IN REVIEW MAYER BROWN 3 Women’s Leadership Committee, US Women’s initiatives at Mayer Brown are governed by our Women’s Leadership Committee in conjunction with the firm’s global Management Committee. Comprised of women partners from the firm’s various offices, the mission of the Women’s Leadership Committee is to enhance and im- prove Mayer Brown’s retention and advancement of women by focusing on both professional development and business development . Each year the committee works closely with firm management to identify opportunities and methods to support our women lawyers . We focus on gender diversity not just at promotion time but throughout the year with a range of women’s initiatives, including programs focused on ensuring suc- cess for the firm’s women partners. For example, we host specific events and networking activities for women at our regional and global partners’ retreats and provide group and individual business development coach- ing for women partners . Women’s Forums and Networks Mayer Brown women’s forums and networks develop and implement women’s initiatives at the office level, including facilitating mentoring groups, assisting in recruiting efforts, providing regular networking events, assisting in promotion efforts, hosting client panels and events, and addressing professional development needs . Panelists included representatives from our Fusion Network, and associate Joseph Otoo (London), chair of the Fusion Network, introduced the Lord Mayor . Black History Month event in Chicago: Clerical Assistant Shirley Hester, the Rev.
