It is an honor to be writing my inaugural letter as the new director of the Longmont Museum. My first day was June 26—in some ways it’s been a shock to the system (new job, new town, new house!), and in other ways it feels like I’m among familiar old friends. The staff of the Museum and my colleagues at the City have been gracious and supportive, helping me get my sea legs. I come to the Longmont Museum with more than 20 years of museum experience — the last decade at the Denver Botanic Gardens. There I developed dynamic art exhibitions, along with engaging programmatic support working with community partners. My training is in both art history and anthropology, so I am very comfortable with the Museum’s multiple disciplines and excited about highlighting them. I am thrilled to make the transition to the Longmont Museum, where the creative and talented team is dedicated to community and quality. Dive into the newsletter to learn more about Day of the Dead celebrations, diverse concerts and performing arts events, Halloween films, holiday festivities, and so much more. The staff has been working tirelessly to bring you rich and unique experiences (ever had an eyeball in your cocktail?). And be sure to take in Dinosaur Discoveries before it closes (maybe that’s what you’re doing when your family is visiting for the holidays?). We are also excited to see plans for a new storage facility for our 3-D historic collections becoming a reality. The new building will expand our capacity for preservation, research, and exhibitions. If the weather cooperates, we may be able to start moving in shortly after the first of the year. I look forward to meeting you and your families as we all explore the Museum this season!
