As you learn to read Hebrew, it’s helpful to recognize whether a word is a “masculine (boy) word” or a “feminine (girl) word.” We’re here to help you do that. Single “feminine words” (Hebrew words also have plural forms but we won’t get into that just yet) .in Hebrew usually end in either an “a” or “et”ִsound Nouns (persons, places, things), verbs (action words), and adjectives (words that describe something, like big/small) all have masculine and feminine forms. Here are some examples of words with feminine endings: (girl) יִַלדִָה 7 Gimel Booklet (glory, greatness) ּתִפאֶּרִֶּת (door( דֶּלֶּת (havdala) הִַבדִָלִָה Following are examples of how masculine and feminine ending words can differ in Hebrew. My hardest class is political science.” Dad said to me, “Son, please light a Shabbat candle and Mom will light a Shabbat candle too.” I lit a candle. Mom lit her candle. I sang Shabbat songs until 10. Shabbat with my family is really fun. 13 Gimel Booklet More Action Words! You already know that Hebrew nouns and verbs are masculine or feminine. Here are some more forms of some verbs. In English, we say, “I go, you go, he/she goes, we go, they go.” Hebrew (and lots of other languages) use different forms of a verb for different pronouns (a pronoun is I, you, she, he, we, they…). And they sometimes have different masculine and feminine forms. Practice reading these.
