COLVIN, Albert C. “Charlie,” 71, of Dillon- vale, Ohio, died Friday, January 17, 2014 at Liza’s Place. He was bom January 22, 1942, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, a son to the late Albert N. and Marie K. (Meintel) Colvin. He was retired from U.S. Can and was a U.S. Marine Veteran. He was a member of the Lansing Sportsman’s Club, the Marshall County Hunt­ ing and Fishing Club, and Vans Panels and Animalz. He enjoyed hunting, fish­ ing, and trap shooting. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica L. Myers. / He is survived by two children, Malissa Colvin (Tom Thomas) of Cadiz, Ohio, and Adam (Angela) Colvin of Colerain Ohio; two brothers- Dennis (Patty) Colvin of Wheeling and Mike (Brenda) Colvin of Wheeling; and four grandchildren, Charles Colvin, Dylan Colvin, Hunter Colvin, and Taylor i Thomas. Friends will be received on Thursday, January 23, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. at the Altmcyer Funeral Home, Wheeling Chapel, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling, where funeral services will be held on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Glen Baker Jr. offici­ ating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling. He was born March 2, 1925, in Wheeling, son of the late Russell J. and Gene Fair Colvin. He was a graduate of Wheeling High School and a Navy veteran serving in Guam during World War ii. He earned degrees in poetry and drama from Kent State University and did graduate work at {Cent State University and Case Western Reserve University. He taught at Massilon High School and at the Chagrin Falls High School near Cleveland; he traveled to Egypt on a Fullbright Scholarship; he served on the St. Clairsville Board pf Education and taught at the Amer­ ican University, Cairo. He joined the faculty of Ohio University Eastern in 1967 where he rose to the position of Professor Emeritus. He worked with the State Depart­ ment, serving in Bangladesh and Cairo. He was active in efforts to pass strip mining reclamation laws. He was a director and performer for Oglcbay Institute’s Towngate Theatre. He sang with the Wheeling Steel Hour and was a performer with Barbs’ Boys and as a boy he was selected to perform with the Singing Boys of America. He was a member of the Belmont County Animal Rescue League and OPALS, and was an elder and dea­ con of the First Presbyterian Church, St. Clairsville. Surviving are three sons, John Colvin of Weirton, George and his wife, Tsui-Ling, of Plain City, Qhio, and Andrew of Honolulu, Hawaii; two sisters, Laura Angfang of Novelty, Ohio, and Sharon Gnagy, North Can­ ton, Ohio; and two grandsons, Caleb Harrison and Nathaniel Flint Colvin. He was bom April 8, 1920 in Franklin, Pa., the son of the William Pearson and Ida Eliza­ beth Schmidt Colvin. Mr. Colvin was president and owner of Flight Inc. from 1960 until 1988. He was an active pilot for 45 years from 1938 until 1983. He graduated from Triadelphia High School and from Parks Air College. He was an instructor for the U.S. Air Corp and served in Air Transport Command during World War II. Mr. Colvin was a member of the Edgwood Evangelical Lutheran Church and the church choir. He was a member of the Wheeling Country Club, Round­ table Investment Club, the Polar Bear Golf Group and the Ameri­ can Legion Post No. 1. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George Schmidt Colvin; a sister, Dorothy Jane Colvin Harvey; and grandparents, George H.P. Schmidt and Emma Weber Schmidt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mitch Colvin in 1986. She is survived by one daughter.
