Overview IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS V3.5 offers a single point of control for a broad range of systems management functions. With IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS, you get the visibility, control, and automation of a large range of system elements spanning both the hardware and software resources of enterprises in a sysplex. This mature, solid approach to automating system and application startup, shutdown, recovery, response to problems, and disaster recovery is a key component in helping improve availability and costs on IBM z/OS. IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS V3.5 provides enhancements in system automation focused on minimizing users' efforts to reduce the costs of IT operation, IBM United States Software Announcement 214-284 IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 1 to lower risks, and to improve system and application availability. Among the new enhancements are: • A configuration assistant that allows you to configure the product in a single- system and multiple-system environment. • Simplified and improved security of the automation environment by consequently using roles with associated command and resource authorization levels. • Standard scenario for looping address space suppression, leveraging the strengths of IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS and IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON® XE for z/OS. • Secure access to hardware interface and improved performance for hardware automation and the ability to automate IBM System z® Advanced Workload Analysis Reporter (zAware). • Application pacing to allow for tighter control of high CPU intensive consumers at start and stop times. • Concurrent edit, browse, and full multiple user access of the customization dialog. • Enhanced message management capabilities with more granular control on how message processing members (automation table, message revision table, message processing facility parmlib member) that are generated. IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS V3.5 is a policy-based automation tool that manages systems and applications on z/OS. It provides: • Cluster-wide automation policies that help to reduce complexity, implementation time, coding, and support efforts. • Comprehensive Parallel Sysplex® management and automation functions including single system image, single point of control, and unique Parallel Sysplex application automation. • Comprehensive IBM zEnterprise® automation from a single point of control. • Policy-based automation that can start, stop, monitor, and recover traditional z/ OS as well as UNIXTM applications and resources. • Integration with IBM Tivoli software enterprise solutions including IBM Tivoli Monitoring, IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler, and network management. • Alarm capabilities by means of integrating with IBM Tivoli System Automation for Integrated Operations Management. • Easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI). • Comprehensive automation for IBM IMSTM, IBM CICS®, Tivoli Workload Scheduler, IBM DB2®, SAP, IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/OS, IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE for CICS on z/OS, IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE for IMS on z/OS, IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE for DB2 Performance Expert on z/OS, Geographically Dispersed Parallel SysplexTM (GDPS®), and IBM WebSphere® Application Server. IBM System Automation for z/OS consists of the following components: • System Operations (SysOps) to manage system and application resources on z/ OS • Processor Operations (ProcOps) to manage hardware changes through Hardware Management Console (HMC) and Service Element • I/O Operations (I/O Ops) to manage I/O switch configuration and changes Effective October 20, 2014, IBM will withdraw from marketing IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS V3.4.0. Key prerequisites • IBM z/OS V1.12, or later For additional details, refer to the Technical information section. IBM United States Software Announcement 214-284 IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 2 Planned availability date September 5, 2014 Description Configuration assistant The configuration assistant allows you to quickly configure IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS V3.5 in a single-system and multiple-system environment by using lab-proven recommended configuration settings for IBM Tivoli NetView® for z/OS and IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS. Using a single options file, the configuration assistant generates all artifacts required to run the product, from data set allocation, to generating SYS1.PARMLIB and SYS1.PROCLIB members, populating the IBM Tivoli NetView for z/OS DSIPARM, up to security definitions for the z/OS Security Server to help protect your automation environment. This eliminates various manual customization and configuration tasks, which were required with predecessor releases. Furthermore, a verification utility can validate that all prerequisites are fulfilled after the configuration is completed. Role-based security IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS simplifies and improves the already existing security of the automation environment by consequently using roles with associated command and resource authorization levels. Users must be authorized to issue a command and to update a resource before that resource's status can be changed by that command. With IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS V3.5, you get third- party security checking for those users who access the product from Time Sharing Option (TSO) or from a batch job. To simplify the definition effort, in combination with the configuration assistant, most of the z/OS Security Server profiles and resource definition commands can be generated automatically and saved in a data set member. Integration with IBM Tivoli Monitoring products IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS improves the integration with IBM Tivoli Monitoring in multiple ways: • The integration between IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS and IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON is further intensified by providing a standard scenario for suppressing looping address spaces. Leveraging IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE for z/OS, looping address spaces are identified and policy is used to decide what courses of action (for example, STOP, RESET, DIAG, and WARN) should be taken and under what circumstances. This support helps to increase the availability of your system, increases the productive usage of CPU capacity and, therefore, improves the overall service level. • Captured messages can now be immediately reported as situations on IBM Tivoli Enterprise Portal (TEP) for selected automation resources using IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS Monitoring Agent. • The IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS Monitoring Agent now supports the IBM Tivoli Monitoring self-describing agent feature that allows you to automatically install all support files on the monitoring server, the portal server, and the portal itself, and, therefore, contributes to lower cost of ownership and less downtime of your monitoring components. • Several attribute groups collected by the IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/ OS Monitoring Agent are enhanced to correspond with the latest level of System Automation 3270-based commands. This includes information about run modes and pacing gates. Hardware automation IBM United States Software Announcement 214-284 IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 3 • IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS supports the latest mainframe hardware generation, the IBM zEnterprise EC12 and IBM zEnterprise BC12. Furthermore, it allows the administrator to designate a target system as a IBM System z Advanced Workload Analysis Reporter (zAware) logical partition in the automation policy and allows the operator to activate and deactivate that logical partition like any other logical partition on the processor. • IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS allows you to use SNMPv3 as the protocol between the Processor Operations focal point and the Hardware Management Console or the Support Element. With SNMPv3, the data from and to the hardware is sent in encrypted format. • The LPAR scope feature allows you to improve the performance of initializing
