The birthday of Lord Krishna is celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm, on this Janmashtami day, in India. Krishna Janmashtami, also known as Krishnashtami, is observed on the Ashtami tithi, the eighth day of the dark half or Krishna Paksha of the month of Shraavana. Lord Krishna is known worldwide and celebrated as an avatar of God Vishnu. On Friday, 23rd August 2019, S. N. Patel Institute of Technology & Research Centre, Umrakh had organized DAHI HANDI CELEBRATION, where students participated the celebration enthusiastically. The students of various branches selected their best team for dahi-handi. The students were overjoyed when they broke the ‘Dahi Handi’ (pot of butter & curd) to grace this occasion. Dahi Handi is the most ancient joyful game played and celebrated, for the birth of Krishna in Janmashtami. It is celebrated amidst merriment. A competition was organized as each department boys gathered to form teams, make a human pyramid and attempt to reach or break the pot, whichever team does it in minimum time wins it. The event is based on the legend of the Krishna stealing butter and other milk products as a baby (he is also called Makhan chor).
