The JNU Entrance Examination for admission to various programmes of study for the Academic Session 2015-16 was conducted by the University on May 16, 17, 18 & 19, 2015 at 76 Centers in 51 cities located in 30 States/Union Territories i.e. Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Orissa, Pondicherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttrakhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. The detailed statistical information with regard to 2015 admissions to various programmes of studies is given in Annexure I to XXI. The highlights are as under: 1. Total 79,714 (76 ,375 Online & 3339 through OMR ) completed application forms received from the intending candidates. Based on the options exercised by the applicants, the total number worked out to 1,22,273 for various fields of study/languages. These do not include application forms received for Combined Entrance Examination for Biotechnology. 2. Based on the performance of the candidates in the Entrance Examination and the Merit Lists prepared in accordance with the provisions of the Admission Policy of the University, 3146 candidates were offered admission against which 2184 candidates from 384 Indian Universities/institutions/ Board joined various programmes of study. 3. As against reservation of 15% for SC category candidates, 13.26% candidates joined the University and as against 7.50% reservation for ST category candidates, 6.96% candidates joined the University. 4. As against reservation of 3% for Physically Challenged candidates, 1.98% candidates joined the University. 5. As against reservation of 27% OBC candidates, 26.29% OBC candidates joined the University. In Addition to above the number of candidates from reserved categories who were selected as their own merit and joined the University on their own merit as unreserved candidates is as under: SC - 37 ST - 39 PH - 14 OBC - 178 6. Of the total of 2184 candidates admitted to various programmes of study- a) 924 were admitted to M.Phil./Ph.D., M.Tech./Ph.D., Pre-Ph.D./Ph.D., M.P.H./Ph.D., 894 to M.A/M.Sc./MCA and remaining 366 to B.A. (Hons.) in Foreign Languages programmes. b) The breakup of men and women candidates works out to 1043 and 1141 respectively. ~ 2 ~ 7. In addition to the 2184 candidates admitted as above, 210 candidates (excluding 58 Foreign Nationals admitted through Entrance Examination) were admitted to various programmes of study were of the following categories over and above the regular intake: i) Foreign Nationals representing 38 countries 83*+58** (*83 in Absentia Category and **58 through Entrance Examination included in 2184 ) ii) Direct Ph.D. 78 iii) NET Qualified (JRF holders) 42 iv) Candidates who could not join last year but 7 Allowed to join this year on the Recommendations Of respective Centers/Schools Total: 210 8. No. of Casual Students Joined in 2015 52 9. No. of candidates joined the Part Time Programmes 150 The detailed statistics for 2015 admissions including Direct Ph.D., NET-JRF holders and Part Time programmes of study are given in the enclosed Annexure. Accordingly the above information along with comparative data for five years i.e. for the years 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 is placed as appendix.
