The tradition of compilation or suth a Dir~ctory after every censu~ is continuing since then with some minor modifications. It provides bSlsic data on demographic, economic, social and oultura1 aspects in respect of each town in a I state. This publication has in fact proved to be of immersE? utility to Elanners, administrators, academicians and researchers. The basic frame of the Town Directory of HHH sGriM is more or less the same as in the case of' earlier censuses. The Town Directory is divided into two sections : Section-A, besides providing pri.mary ..census abstract, contains an analytical note, the town directocy. covering.7- st.atements (I-VI and IV-a) and a few appenffices. It is hop~d that the presert volume will be useful to the Certtrai/State Govenunent. departments, district administrations, local bo,sl~es, etc. in micro-level planning and administration of the urban areas and for preparing the development 'plans in relation to their hinterland. the maps~ on Iand:-use which present morphology of the towns 'are expected to be helpful to the town planners fdt w~rki11g out balance~ well integrated and farsighted developmental plans.
