Emma Steele James O'Connell Lauder, Raouf Mohammed 17.07.19 DIXONS TRINITY Newsflash ACADEMY AN OFSTED OUTSTANDING SCHOOL Acting Principal: Vice Principal: James O'Connell Lauder, Raouf Mohammed Issue: 17.07.19 MESSAGE FROM MISS STEELE As we approach the summer holidays, I wanted to take the opportunity to thank all families, students and staff for their hard work and commitment shown this academic year. The success of the school is determined by you; I feel very privileged to be part of Team Trinity - particularly with the new member provided by Miss Thompson, now Mrs Cross! Year 11 worked incredibly hard for their exams, setting a fantastic example to other year groups, and we are looking forward to them receiving their well-earned results in August. It is really important that we now all enjoy a rest over the summer! Please take care and stay safe. DIXONS CUP - article by Mr Rollinson The Dixons cup was established this year to get more students involved in physical activity and increase the competitive culture across the trust. Trinity have had a fantastic first year competing in seven different sports and claiming victory, with just one event to go in the overall competition. A particular mention must go to the Y7 Boys’ Football team who not only won this competition, but also finished second in the Bradford South Football League. As an academy we have gone from strength to strength in the indoor athletics competitions this year with three teams going through to represent at the Bradford Winter Games. As a department, we look forward to introducing even more physical activities to the calendar for the next academic year. DIXONS TRINITY GIRLS STAND UP AND SPEAK OUT – article by Mrs Vinnicombe Kiran Shakil 7A and Maleeha Khawaja 8B from Dixons Trinity Academy recently represented the school at the Stand Up Speak Out competition which was held at Dixons Unity Academy in Leeds. The competition was a Dixon's Trust event and involved children from both Leeds and Bradford. Kiran spoke about ‘Aspirations’, she demonstrated confidence and control as she encouraged others, particularly females, to follow their dreams. She made an excellent effort and showed promise of what she may achieve in the competition next year. Maleeha’s speech however on ‘Persecution’, which focused predominantly on the persecution of the Uyghur Muslims in the Xinjiang region of China, was delivered with such passion and persuasion that it won the judges vote and she walked away with the prize for best speech in the Year 8 category. DIXONS SPANISH SPELLING BEE AND TRANSLATION BEE: DOUBLE WIN FOR TRINITY! - article by Miss Hawley-Boutonnet Dixons Trinity swooped the honours at the Dixons Spanish Spelling and Translation Bee Finals, the MFL leg of the Dixons Cup, which took place at Dixons Kings Academy on Thursday 11 July. We would like to congratulate Hibah Ali and Scarlett Patterson (Year 7) on a remarkable 1-2 for Trinity students in the Spelling Bee, whilst Haroon Chaudhury Akhtar (Year 8) claimed the top prize in the Translation Bee. Special mention must go to Hamaad Hussain (Year 7) for making the final having injured himself in the morning! All our finalists were wonderful ambassadors for the Spanish Department and for Trinity. ¡Enhorabuena! SUMMER READING ADVENTURES - article by Mrs Titterington The Summer holidays is an excellent time for all students to read, so please help to support this and encourage them to visit their local library or bookshop. Bradford is holding many events over the holidays to enthuse students and get them reading, writing and thinking. There is a new exhibition at the Bronte Parsonage Museum in Haworth about the Brontes’ father, Patrick, as well as the usual exhibitions featuring the miniature books the Brontes wrote as children. It is fifty years since a man walked on the moon and the National Science and Media Museum will be celebrating this during the Bradford Science Festival with exhibitions and, of course, books on the subject. Next academic year we look forward to initiating several new projects in the iBase, assisting students to reach the summit of success. Following changes to the Admissions Policy for Dixons Trinity, parents no longer need to complete a Supplementary Form for their child to be considered for a place at the Academy because the Academy no longer admits children by fair-banded assessment. This same applies for Dixons Allerton & Dixons Cottingley academies who also do not use fair-banding as part of their admission arrangements. Parents do, however, need to complete the Common Application Form (CAF) provided by their local authority (which will be available in early September) and submit that by the deadline of 31st October 2019. Parents with a child/children already attending Dixons Trinity need to list that child/those children in the siblings section on the CAF. Any parents who wish to also apply to Dixons City, Kings or McMillan academies, should still complete a supplementary form before the deadline of 3.30pm on Monday 23 September 2019. Please refer to the Admissions page on any of the following websites for details of this form. Dixons City Academy www.dixonsca.com; Dixons Kings Academy www.dixonska.com; Dixons McMillan Academy www.dixonsma.com Sibling rule: This applies to children whose siblings (brothers & sisters) at the time of applying (i.e. in September) will be within years 7 to 10 at Dixons Trinity Academy. In addition to brothers and sisters, the term sibling includes legally adopted or fostered children, and step- and half-brothers or sisters living at the same address. Please note: If the sibling is in Year 11 in September this will not count under the sibling rule because that child will have left the Academy by the time that the younger sibling starts. Admissions: If you have any questions concerning the admissions process, please do not hesitate to contact the Admissions Team via e-mail: [email protected] or telephone: 01274 424350 @DixonsTA.
