Real Estate and Building Industries Council 2017 Celebration Honoring About Real Estate and Building Industries Council (RBIC) Landmarks Illinois (LI) – the state’s leading voice for historic preservation – has worked since 1971 to leverage the past to create a better future for the people of Illinois. LI’s Real Estate and Building Industries Council (RBIC) engages leaders in the design, construction, development, real estate and finance industries. RBIC’s mission is to support and highlight those who problem- solve and navigate complex preservation issues inherent to historic building redevelopment. 2017 RBIC Celebration – One of the Best Networking Parties of the Year Each year, Landmarks Illinois recognizes individuals, firms and organizations that demonstrate a special dedication to historic preservation through responsible development and planning. The event gathers over 400 real estate and building industry professionals for an evening of celebration, comradery and networking. Considered one of the best parties of the year, the 2017 RBIC event will be held at the newly restored Bush Temple of Music and will recognize Cedar Street Companies. 2016 RBIC Event Honoring Amtrak Bonnie McDonald, President of Landmarks Illinois and Mark Murphy, Senior V.P. and General Manager of Amtrak RBIC Honoring Cedar Street Companies – The Bush Temple Restored Great places don’t just happen; they are the result of vision, collaboration, grit and tireless commitment. Landmarks Illinois will honor Cedar Street Companies with its 2017 RBIC Award in recognition of their transformation of historic places across the city of Chicago. The RBIC celebration will take place at the National Historic Landmark, Bush Temple of Music. Designed by architect J.E.O. Pridmore in 1901, the rare large-scale French Renaissance Revival “Chateauesque” style building, once housed the headquarters and showroom of the Bush and Gerts Piano Company. The building featured a buff brick and terra cotta exterior and originally included a clock tower. It not only housed Bush and Gerts, but also housed the Bush Temple of Music, the Bush Temple Theatre, museum and office space. 1 Page Page The Bush Temple Scope of Work Located in the River North Neighborhood, Cedar Street Companies has restored The Bush Temple into 101 amenity-rich apartments and 4 prime retail spaces. Residents will enjoy hotel-like amenities, including a state -of-the-art fitness center and boxing club, bike room, rooftop deck and grand lobby. Due to the historic nature of the property, Cedar Street made all efforts to preserve as many original architectural details as possible. The updated building includes its original skylights on the first floor, marble walls in the corridor, and terrazzo flooring throughout the building. A Significant Source of Program Funding The annual RBIC event raises $80,000-$100,000 to support Landmarks Illinois programs to help people saving places. It is also an important opportunity to celebrate and highlight the contributions of people and institutions who invest in historic places.
