83 Greg Elkson Glenelg Our game has the unique ability to touch so many people in varying facets, it brings individuals together to play side by side, who have never met. it expands our social network, it provides an opportunity to develop, and it unites us when we lose a baseball family member. This season we welcomed new participants and their families to our game, we welcomed back athletes returning from college, we acknowledge athletes who were BASEBALL SA embarking on their college journey and wished them every success. We offered pathways for some our young talented youth to participate in the ABL. We also PRESIDENT provided opportunities for coaches to teach, mentor and manage our youth, some tasting success, others building and acquiring knowledge. Our game has provided so many with so much, and yet none of this is afforded without a devoted group of individuals that sacrifice, dedicate, and love the game and their Club. Clubs have the ability to foster passion, development and success. We have been touched by some unique individuals that left us this season, singling one in particular, Jim Wilton. A BSA life member, he held many positions on the BSA Board and was largely a person who brought great value to our organisation, of which we are sincerely thankful. Our youth have been allowed to participate, develop and grow as we create many opportunities for them to compete, train and strengthen through various programs. We have extended their chances to play the game on multiple platforms, whether these be in Little League charter teams, State teams or the Bite Academy. i would like to acknowledge our high-performance programs, overseen by Landon Hernandez, which have been structured with disciplines in growing athlete’s skill and knowledge. i am buoyed by the growth of the BSA women’s league and the programs which have extended the reach of baseball in SA beyond male domination. With the support of the Office of Recreation and Sport, BSA have been able to develop, structure and grow a women’s league with some very committed and passionate individuals. in February, we welcomed the new Baseball Australia CEO, Cam Vale who replaced the outgoing Brett Pickett. For over 15 years Brett oversaw the developed and infrastructure on a National level. i would like to thank him for his vision and support. i look forward to working with Cam on building the continuance of the game in all facets. i am pleased to report an operating surplus of $56,184 compared to a 2015/2016 deficit of $120,654 which is a $176,838 turn around, a combination of hard work and lean operation by our Board, CEO and staff. With the support of the Club’s President’s, BSA adopted to fully integrate the Adelaide Bite and BSA. Due to Major League Baseball’s decision to divest in the Australian Baseball League and support the game of baseball in Australia in other substantive ways, BSA, Baseball Australia and the Adelaide Bite were able to leverage the newly forged relationships to ensure the continuation of the Australian Baseball League and the Adelaide Bite for the 2016/2017 season. The Board appointed Shayne Bennett to represent BSA on the newly created ABL Strategic Advisory Committee, established to work on reviewing the strategic business model. The committee was also tasked to review the operational model of the ABL and its long term sustainably. 7 South Australian Baseball League inc. i would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and congratulate BSA 2016/17 Life Member inductee John Ryan for his service to Baseball SA. Unfortunately, John left us shortly after receiving his induction due to ill health. On field, we hosted the National Junior League at our BSA headquarters at West Beach.
