Kon Vatskalis Showcasing Northern Territory Industry in Western

Kon Vatskalis MINISTER FOR BUSINESS AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT 11 March 2008 Showcasing Northern Territory Industry in Western Australia Minister for Business and Economic Development, Kon Vatskalis, will travel to Western Australia this week to promote the NT as a regional maintenance and operations base for the mining, and oil and gas industries. “It’s no secret the Northern Territory is leading the resources boom. Mining, and oil and gas represent a large slice of the Territory’s economy, contributing $3.6 billion,” said the Minister. “The latest figures show there are more opportunities ahead for business and industry to expand, particularly in the area of maintenance and operations of these projects.” In Perth, the Minister will host several functions where he will make presentations to the oil and gas industry to promote the Territory and encourage companies to expand their operations into Darwin. Guests attending a “Friends of the Territory” breakfast will include a number of representatives from mining and oil and gas companies who already have a presence in the NT. In an attempt to reach a broader audience and establish new contacts there will also be an evening function, where the Minister will have the opportunity to further promote the Northern Territory’s industry capability to support offshore activities. Guest speakers will join the Minister including Mr Mark Tinley from Transhose, a Darwin company that has recently opened a branch in Perth, and Mr Joe Marushack, President from ConocoPhillips, who will talk about the advantages of doing business locally within the Northern Territory. The Minister will also do a tour of the Australian Marine Complex (AMC) facility at Henderson where Saipem/AGC is constructing the well head platform for the Blacktip gas project in the Bonaparte Gulf, south west of Darwin. This gas will be piped to the Channel Island Power Station, with first gas scheduled for January 2009. Media contact: Nikola Lekias 0438 323660 .
