The transaction utlimately saw the Senators acquire centre Matt Duchene from Colorado. The Senators acquired Columbus’ first-round pick as part of a trade package which sent Duchene and Julius Bergman to the Blue Jackets in exchange for Vitaly Abramov, Jonathan Davidsson and this pick on Feb. 22, 2019. OTTAWA SENATORS 2019 NHL Draft Ottawa Senators draft notes Draft summary: The Senators have drafted a total of 219 players since 1992. The team has not had a first-round selection on two occasions (2010 and 2014). Ottawa traded its first-round pick (16th overall) in 2010 to St. Louis in exchange for David Rundblad. On Dec. 17, 2011, the Senators traded Rundblad and their second-round selection in 2012 to the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for Kyle Turris. The Senators traded their first-round pick in 2014 to the Anaheim Ducks (along with Stefan Noesen and Jakob Silfverberg) in exchange for Bobby Ryan on July 5, 2013. The team traded its first-round pick in 2019 to the Colorado Avalanche (along with Shane Bowers, Andrew Hammond, Turris and the team’s third-round pick in 2019) in exchange for Matt Duchene on Nov. 5, 2017. The Senators recouped a 2019 first- round selection (from the Columbus Blue Jackets) as part of a trade package which included Duchene on Feb. 22, 2019. Roman Wick (2004), Eric Gryba (2006) and Chris Wideman (2009) took six years from their respective drafts to play an NHL game with Ottawa. Julien Vauclair (1998), Colin Greening (2005), Fredrik Claesson (2011), Ryan Dzingel (2011), Max McCormick (2011) and Marcus Hogberg (2013) required five years from their respective drafts to reach the NHL. Elliott’s NHL debut on Oct. 10, 2007, saw him become the lowest drafted player to ever play for the Senators. OTTAWA SENATORS 2019 NHL Draft 1995 the lone empty draft: The only year which none of the Senators draft picks ultimately played at least one game for Ottawa is 1995, but four of the team’s nine draftees that year did play in the NHL. Ottawa’s first overall pick in 1995, Bryan Berard, was traded in a deal that included the return of the second overall pick, Wade Redden, from the N.Y. Islanders, on Jan. 23, 1996. Redden went on to play 838 games for the Senators, which ranks fourth in franchise history. Stanley Cup winners: Four Senators draft picks have won the Stanley Cup. Stan Neckar (29th, 1994) won with Tampa Bay in 2004, Marian Hossa (12th, 1997) won with Chicago in 2010, 2013 and 2015, Chris Kelly (94th, 1999) won with Boston in 2011 and Antoine Vermette (55th, 2000) won with Chicago in 2015.
