Elan Links is a Heritage Lottery supported scheme which aims to secure this heritage and boost the opportunities available in the Elan Valley for the future. Between 2018 and 2023, £3.3million will be invested in 26 projects to safeguard heritage and increase the opportunities for visitors. Celebrating Enhancing Enjoying Elan Experience & Heritage Nature & Wildlife Education At the heart of the Elan Valley story is water. The River Elan was dammed to create 5 reservoirs and provide water for Birmingham. A massive feat of Victorian engineering, the pipe was turned on by King Edward VII in 1904. In 1952 another dam in the Claerwen Valley was opened by Queen Elizabeth II.
