LOK SABHA ___ SYNOPSIS OF DEBATES (Proceedings other than Questions & Answers) ______ Friday, March 9, 2018 / Phalguna 18, 1939 (Saka) ______ WELCOME TO THE PARLIAMENTARY DELEGATION FROM THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA Hon'ble Speaker: Hon'ble Members, on behalf of the Hon'ble Members of the House, I have great pleasure in welcoming H.E. Mr. Chung Sye Kyun, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea and members of the Parliamentary Delegation from the Republic of Korea who are on a visit to India as our honoured guests. They arrived in India on Thursday, 8 March, 2018. They are now seated in the Special Box. During stay in India, they will also visit Agra. We wish them a happy and fruitful stay in our country. Through them we convey our greetings and best wishes to the Parliament, the Government and the friendly people of the Republic of Korea. ______ OBITUARY REFERENCES Hon'ble Speaker: Hon'ble Members, I have to inform the House about the sad demise of three of our former members, Shrimati Shyama Singh, Shri Bhanu Kumar Shashtri and Shri Prabodh Panda. Shrimati Shyama Singh was a member of the 13th Lok Sabha representing the Aurgangabad Parliamentary Constituency of Bihar. She was a member of the Committee on Human Resource Development and the Committee on Empowerment of Women. She was an active social worker and she worked for the upliftment of the disadvantaged sections of society. Shrimati Shyama Singh passed away on 11th September 2017 in Delhi at the age of 75. Shri Bhanu Kumar Shashtri was a member of the 6th Lok Sabha representing the Udaipur Parliamentary Constituency of Rajasthan. He was a member of the Committee on Public Undertakings and the Committee on Absence of Members from the sitting of the House. Earlier, he was also a member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from 1972 to 1976. Shri Bhanu Kumar Shashtri passed away on 24th February 2018 in Udaipur, Rajasthan at the age of 92. Shri Prabodh Panda was a member of the 13th to 15th Lok Sabha representing the Medinipur Parliamentary Constituency of West Bengal. He was a member of the Estimates Committee, the Committee on Agriculture and the Committee on Private Members' Bills and Resolutions. Shri Panda was a writer also and he authored a number of books in Bangla. Shri Prabodh Panda passed away on 27th February, 2018 in Kolkata, West Bengal at the age of 72. We deeply mourn the loss of our former colleagues and I am sure the House would join me in conveying our condolences to the bereaved families. The Members then stood in silence for a short while.
