St. John Ambulance Of Malaysia, North-East Area, Penang, went through the Year 2011 with a new Area Commander, appointed by the State Commander, Dato’ Dr. Yee Thiam Sun, upon the resignation of the North-East Area commander, Mr. Lee Choew Guan, on 20 th .January 2011. The North-East Area put Mr. Lee Choew Guan’s services in record. There was a reshuffle in the North-East Area staff officers list. The North-East Area had an eventful year of activities for the Year 2011. The activities were Cadet Trainers Course, N.E.A. Cadet Day, N.E.A. Cooking Competition, N.E.A. First Aid Competition to name a few. North-East Area officers and members of school divisions also helped and took part in the activities organized by the State. The North-East Area would like to thank all the officers and members in the N.E.A . for their support and greatly appreciated their efforts which made SJAM., N.E.A., Penang, a happy and eventful Year 2011. 2. North South Highway Duty ( Hari Raya Puasa ) Officers and members from the North-East Area carried out the above duty on 27 th .and 28 th .August 2011 and 3 rd .and 4 th .Sept.2011 at the Poliklinik Komuniti Bayan Baru and Tanjung Bunga. The duties were of 3 shifts per day of 8 hours. The North –East Area appreciated their services and thanked them for the support and co-operation. 4. Parades, processions and rallies. Officers and members from the North-East Area took part in parades, processions and rallies organized by the state, government departments and other organizations. 5. Annual State Inspection. The Annual State Inspection & Review was held on Sunday 12 th . June 2011 at the Esplanade. Tuan Yang Di Pertua Negeri Pulau Pinang, Tun Dato’ Seri Haji Abdul Rahman Bin Haji Abbas, S.M.N., D.U.P.N., S.P.K.D.,D.M.P.N., D.J.N., carried out the inspection and review. Mr. Teh Yee Cheu, State Assemblyman for Tanjung Bunga, represented the Penang Chief Minister. Some 40 officers and members received their service medals and awards during the inspection. 6. Examinations and Re-examinations: The North-East Area with the co-operations of the State, conducted first aid courses, examinations and re-examinations for the recruits, members and officers. The North-East Area thanked the doctors and examiners for their cooperation. 7. Public Dutuies: Officers, and members from the school divisions, performed public duties when called upon to do so. The duties included sports, processions, rallies, Penang horse racing, walkathons, marathons, disasters, public gathering events, company and factory gatherings, to name a few. The North-East Area appreciated all the principals of schools, teacher advisors and officers for being co- operative in allowing their members to perform public duties when their services were needed. 8. State First Aid & Home Nursing Competition. The State first aid & home nursing competition was held on Sunday, 20 th .March 2011 ( Theory test ) and Sunday, 27 th .March 2011 (Practical test ). 10 teams from the North-East area took part . The results were as follows.
