CERTAINTY CONFERENCE SUNDAY PM, SEPTEMBER 23, 2018 The BATTLE for the BIBLE: Identifying a BIBLICAL APPROACH to Understanding the Issues Jeremiah 36 Introduction ✦ Jeremiah 36 is one of the clearest EXPLANATIONS and ILLUSTRATIONS in the entire Bible about the biblical process of the INSPIRATION, TRANSMISSION and PRESERVATION of Scripture. ✦ It is necessary, because Isaiah 55:8-9 tell us that God's WAYS aren't _______ WAYS, and His THOUGHTS aren't ________ THOUGHTS! ✦ In other words, God doesn't ______________ things the way we do. • Romans 11:34 and 1 Corinthians 2:16... "For who hath known the __________ of the Lord." Tonight's Message "Five Key PRIORITIES God has in His Heart and Mind Concerning the INSPIRATION, TRANSMISSION and PRESERVATION of His WORD and WORDS" 1. God makes a PRIORITY out of men having "________" of His actual "____________." (36:1-3) Note: A __________ times God repeats that He wanted the people to get ALL of His WORDS! • Jeremiah 36:2 "Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein __________ the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah..." • Jeremiah 36:4 "Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah ________ the words of the Lord..." • Jeremiah 36:11 "When Michaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book _________ the words of the Lord..." • Jeremiah 36:13 "Then Michaiah declared unto them ________ the words that he had heard..." • Jeremiah 36:16 "Now it came to pass, when they had heard ________the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of _______ these words." • Jeremiah 36:17 "And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write ________ these words at his mouth?" • Jeremiah 36:18 "Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced ________ these words unto me with his mouth..." • Jeremiah 36:20 " ...they... told ________ the words in the ears of the king." • Jeremiah 36:24 "Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard _________ these words." • Jeremiah 36:28 "Take thee again another roll, and write in it _______ the former words that were in the first roll..." • Jeremiah 36:32 "...who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah _________ the words of the book..." 2. God's PRIORITY is that His INSPIRED "______________" WORDS... Become His INSPIRED "________________" WORDS. (36:4-18) Note the "THREE-STEP PROCESS of BIBLICAL TRANSMISSION." (How the "words" of the LORD in HEAVEN get to the _________________ on EARTH.) A. The Lord "_________________" ALL of His WORDS to His holy prophet... with His (God's) mouth. "...and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the Lord, WHICH HE (GOD!) HAD SPOKEN UNTO HIM..." (36:4) B. God's holy prophet, then, "_______________" ALL of the WORDS of the Lord with his (the prophet's) mouth. "...and Baruch wrote FROM THE MOUTH OF JEREMIAH all the words of the Lord, which he had spoken unto him." (36:4) C. A "scribe" (an AMANUENSIS — a "legal secretary," if you will) then "_____________" ALL of the WORDS of the LORD— which came out of the PROPHET'S MOUTH, on a ROLL of a BOOK (scroll). (36:4) "...and BARUCH WROTE from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the Lord, which he had spoken unto him, UPON A ROLL OF A BOOK." • This is the same PROCESS Paul described in 2 Timothy 3:16... "All scripture is given by INSPIRATION OF GOD, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." • This is the same PROCESS Peter described in 2 Peter 1:21... "For the prophecy CAME NOT in old time BY THE WILL OF MAN... * Jeremiah 1:5– * Jeremiah 20:9– * Exodus 3–4 (3:11)– "but holy men of God SPAKE as they were MOVED BY THE HOLY GHOST." * Jeremiah 36:4– Note: The "WORDS" in the ____________ were the exact "WORDS" the prophet had SPOKEN– Which were the exact "WORDS" God Himself had SPOKEN! • The BIBLICAL PROCESS described in Jeremiah 36:4 is also REITERATED in... * Jeremiah 36:5-6– * Jeremiah 36:8– * Jeremiah 36:10– * Jeremiah 36:17-18– 3. God makes a PRIORITY out of men having His INSPIRED WORDS in a BOOK they can __________ in their __________. (36:14-16) 14 Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying, TAKE IN THINE HAND THE ROLL wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah TOOK THE ROLL IN HIS HAND, and came unto them. 4. God has never placed a PRIORITY on the ___________________ MANUSCRIPTS. (36:19-25) Note: With all of the hoopla these days about "Original Manuscripts," there isn't ________...________________ "Original Manuscript" to be found anywhere on this planet! * Mark 13:31 (Matt. 24:35/Luke 21:32)– 5. Even though the ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPTS have been destroyed, God makes it a PRIORITY to "_________________" ALL of His ORIGINAL "WORDS" — and whatever OTHER "WORDS" He intends to add to bring clarity. (36:27-31) Conclusion — Jeremiah 36:32... "Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire:" "...and there were added besides unto them many like words.".
