Richmond Junior Football Club Season 2016 RJFC Sponsors & Supporters RJFC Committee report The RJFC has seen enormous growth in Season 2016 The club continues to take great strides forward on the participation levels front. From 8 teams in 2015 to 15 teams in 2016 as well as Auskick a growing to over 160 registrations and more growth anticipated for 2017. Looking back at 2016, it’s fair to say we worked our way through some head-winds as a direct result of that growth - particularly as the support of girl’s football gathered significant momentum that resulted in RJFC rocketing to be the 3rd largest number of girl’s participation in the YJFL. We also the beginning of what we hope is a long term relationship with the Melbourne Indigenous Transition School. North Richmond Club All of this growth necessitated us finding a second home ground at KB Reserve, shuffling of training times, new coaches, team managers and of course working though team formation. Whilst there were some frustrations and lessons learnt, we are a stronger club as result. Individually, we had some great results in the YJFL B+F. In the Colts Ubil Chol won, in the Under 14’s Connor Loel was second, Under 13’s Zach Dowd was third and Under 12’s Herschel Waters was third. Many other players had top ten finishes including Sol Zimmerman, Patrick Shortall, Tiegan Otter, Will Stevens, Asher Claney and Eddie King. In the girls teams we had Keira Dowd third in Under 12s, with Milla Bornas, Jodie Wodidj and Alayla Parry finishing in the top 10. At a team level we had great success with all boys teams making the finals, one girls team making the finals in their first year, three teams making the grand final and the U14s winning the premiership. Congratulations to all the players, coaches and support staff. Off the field we continue to work with the City of Yarra on many aspects – integration of RJFC to KB, storage and the playing surface at Citizens Park. We thank the CoY for the new storage container and ramps and for their support working towards a better playing surface YJFL B+F for season 2017. We will continue to engage with them over the summer months. Our social committee did a wonderful job in organising the three events over the season. Congratulations to the following players We look forward to an even better social calendar in 2017 – Thanks to Sarah, Tania, Troy, for placing in the YJFL count: Jen and Mick. U/8 Our tackling became a real highlight of our game, and the willingness of Henry, Ashby, Jed, Bailey, Gregory, Charlie, Phineas and Jack to chase, harass and win the ball led to numerous turnovers and set an example of how U8 tackling should be done. My thanks to Josh and Lachlan for their coaching work during the season, and thanks to our “unofficial” assistant coach, Mick Murphy. Many thanks to Ione, Charlotte and Kristen for undertaking the team manager role this season to ensure that all the organisational responsibilities were taken care of. A further big thanks to all of the parents who provided assistance with training and on match days, there is no way that a coach and team manager can cover everything that needs to be taken care of. My congratulations to each of our award winners, it was my privilege to coach the U8 Black team, and I hope to see everyone continue their footy journey together next season. Hyph Webb-Johnson U/8 Black Coach What a season. The start of the year we had a group of enthusiastic boys, some a little nervous. It was a small group at first but as the weeks went by gradually our numbers grew until we could successfully fill 2 teams on game day. Week after week as confidence grew as a coach & the boys as players I watched their understanding of the game and their skills grow far quicker than I thought possible. My Moto for the year was: A late pre-season surge as the call of the Tiger Army spread saw the under 8’s grow to two – When we have the ball- get in space. teams, dubbed appropriately U8 Yellow and U8 Black. It was decided early on that there – When they have the ball man up. would be no fixed teams, to allow the boys to play with the entire group and develop their skills together.
