School Newsletter 3 July 2015

School Newsletter 3 July 2015 Good morning, it looks like it's going to be another warm one! The staff and children have coped incredibly well with the rising temperatures this week. As you can imagine, with a building of this age, and classrooms full of 30 children, the afternoon sessions can be quite challenging. Couple this with a lack of shade outside and tired children who haven't slept well, we have all done well to keep going! This week has been a hive of activity culminating today with Friendly Friday, where chil- dren are completing a variety of SMSC based activities across the school. We have been busy preparing children for transition this week and welcomed our new Re- ception children into school on Wednesday of this week. It was lovely for me to spend some time with them and to reflect about how much children develop and grow during their first full year of school with us. Our year 6 pupils have visited their secondary schools this week and have come back buzzing about the exciting opportunities which lie ahead of them. Whilst welcoming new children, we also welcomed in to school this week new staff mem- bers who are joining us - Mrs Gill and Mrs Humphries. Mrs Gilbey has also been out and about visiting classrooms to observe teachers as she prepares to start her teacher training with us in September. Mrs Gilbey will be completing the same course as Miss Barker has done this year and will be learning the ropes in Hawthorn class from Mrs Porter. We've had more sporting success over the past week, with our swim team winning the WASPs competition at the weekend and our runners being crowned the ‘District Sports Mixed Grand Shuttle Relay Champions'. Well done to all of our children who participated and to staff and parents for supporting them. Next week we continue with our busy schedule and await the return of SATs papers which we shall then number crunch and report to parents as soon as we can. We will also be finalising preparations for the Pyrford and Wisley Flower Show taking place next weekend and look forward to seeing all the children there. The link http:// www.pyrfordflowershow.org.uk/junior/4555956852 takes you to the junior section and we encourage you to enter some of the junior categories. I wish you all a pleasant weekend and look forward to seeing many of you this evening when I shall be attending the Iftar at the Shah Jahan Mosque. I feel privileged to be invited and cannot but admire the determination of those of you in our school community who are currently undertaking fasting during this long and hot Ramadan. Best wishes. MUFTI DAY - TUESDAY 14TH JULY We are inviting children to come in to school in mufti clothes for a suggested donation of £1 towards JDRF. The School Council have chosen to support this charity as it has given a lot of support to a child in one of our Reception classes who has Type 1 Diabetes. She, too, has raised money for the charity by taking part in a sponsored walk. JDRF funds research to cure, treat and prevent Type 1 diabetes and provides information for children, adults and parents living with the condition, from diagnosis and beyond. Sport4Kids (S4K) are very excited to be delivering the Pyrford School Holiday Camps this summer. S4K have been delivering weekend sports classes, midweek school and nursery programmes and holi- day camps since 2012, currently working with over 1000 children every week. Our mission is to build a movement that champions sport from a child and parents perspective. In our classes we look to merge child psychology and learning, entertainment and fun along with the development of confidence through individual skills coaching. Earlier this year we joined forces with ActivKids who have been working with Pyrford for a number of years supporting PE and delivering an after school club, and together our range of programmes and services have been enhanced further. The summer camp timetable is now available at http://sport4kids.biz/holiday-camp/ wokingholidaycamp. We look forward to welcoming pupils from Pyrford to our exciting and energetic camp.
