SLS 14RS-4326 ORIGINAL Regular Session, 2014 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 156 BY SENATOR LONG AND REPRESENTATIVES BROWN AND COX COMMENDATIONS. Commends Venus Lacy on being named to the 2014 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 2 To commend Venus Lacy on being named to the 2014 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame 3 Induction Class. 4 WHEREAS, each year Louisiana's sports writers select a limited number of athletes, 5 past or present, who have become figures of national and international renown to be 6 regarded as the state's immortals in the spheres of athletes and enshrined in the Louisiana 7 Sports Hall of Fame; and 8 WHEREAS, the 2014 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Class includes former 9 Louisiana Tech basketball start Venus Lacy; and 10 WHEREAS, after a successful start to her career at Brainerd High School, in 11 Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she was named Miss Basketball, she played for Old 12 Dominion University; and 13 WHEREAS, after her freshman year, she transferred to Louisiana Tech University, 14 where she was a starting center for the Lady Techsters from 1988 to 1990 and was part of 15 the national championship team that won the NCAA title in 1988; and 16 WHEREAS, during her successful career as a Lady Techster, she was twice named 17 Player of the Year for both the American South Conference and for the state of Louisiana; 18 and Page 1 of 2 SLS 14RS-4326 ORIGINAL SCR NO. 156 1 WHEREAS, she maintains the top scoring average in Tech basketball history and is 2 in the top five for career points, field goals made, field goals attempted, and blocked shots; 3 and 4 WHEREAS, before her retirement from basketball in 1998, Ms. Lacy played on the 5 1996 U.S. Olympic team that won a gold medal, played in the American Basketball League, 6 and spent two seasons with the New York Liberty of the Women's National Basketball 7 Association; and 8 WHEREAS, because of her long and distinguished career on the basketball court, 9 Venus Lacy possesses the talents and skills worthy of being named to the Louisiana Sports 10 Hall of Fame. 11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 12 commend and congratulate Venus Lacy on being named to the 2014 Louisiana Sports Hall 13 of Fame Induction Class. 14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 15 Venus Lacy.
