Please use this link for Summer Camp Guidelines Annual General Meeting This year’s AGM will be held on Thursday 21st May at 6:30 pm. In addition to providing parents with the opportunity to see how the Board of Governors operates, it is a chance to learn what activities the Board has been involved in over the past year. The AGM also gives parents a chance to see how the school is planning for the future. An important part of ensuring that the school continues to develop and improve is the election of members of the Board of Governors at the AGM. This week, ballots for the Board of Governors election, with return envelopes were posted to all ISB families. The letter should arrive at your home address in the next few days. Please bring the sealed envelope containing the ballot paper to the AGM on the 21st May and drop it in the ballot box. If you are unable to attend the AGM, you can drop your envelope in the ballot box in the Guardhouse at the main entrance of school. Alternatively, you can give your ballot to someone else who will be attending the AGM. For your information, here are the Board Member Candidate Resumes. When filling out the ballot, please note that this year, there are candidates who are running unopposed. We look forward to receiving your completed ballot before 6.30 pm on 21st May and meeting you at the AGM. From the Head of School Returning to School The Busan Metropolitan City (BMC) Office for Education has now shared the health and safety requirements and school return dates with us. The ISB campus is owned by the BMC, so we are obliged to follow the rules, recommendations and advice that they provide when it comes to matters of health and safety. The campus return dates they have shared are staggered over the next three weeks. They are as follows: Simon McCloskey Wednesday 20th May Wednesday 27th May Monday 1st June Junior Pre-School Grade Three Grade Five Senior Pre-School Grade Four Grade Six Kindergarten Grade Eight Grade Seven Grade One Grade Ten Grade Two Grade Nine Grade Eleven In preparation for the return to school, we will be closing the physical campus for all staff and faculty on Monday 11th May so that the school can be deep cleaned and comprehensively disinfected by a professional cleaning company. On Monday 18th May the school day will finish at 12.00 pm so that staff and faculty can set up learning spaces and receive Covid-19 transmission prevention training. If your child is unable to return to school for the scheduled return date, we will endeavour to provide resources that will enable them to continue to learn at home. Please note that this will not be the comprehensive virtual learning environment that is currently in place. In these cases, by prior arrangement with the section principal, attendance will be recorded as a completed school day. A designated staff member will be assigned to liaise between the student at home and the teacher at school to ensure that learning continues. We are now in the process of reviewing all health and safety protocols and reorganizing learning areas to accommodate social distancing requirements. We will share detailed information about how our school will operate to ensure we are minimising the risk of Covid-19 transmission next week. Please be reminded that, before students return to school, a completion of a travel and health form will be required. This form will also be shared with you next week. We are looking forward to having students back on campus from Wednesday 20th May. Thank you once again for your ongoing support of our school. From the Secondary Principal Virtual Learning in the Secondary School Despite it being a short week with the Children’s Day holiday on Tuesday, it has been busy as usual in the secondary school. Students continue to impress their teachers with their tenacity to succeed. Many many questions are being asked of teachers - the desire to learn continues. The Assembly Club have created a Secondary Assembly Video shared at Homeroom today - well done and thank you. Plans are well under way to prepare for a return to the ISB campus - with obvious protocols in place. Teachers are beginning to talk about how their classes will look and feel as they continue teaching students but this time face to face! Al Roland Grade 6 Individuals and Society Guided by their curiosity, 6 I&S MYP students selected an ancient civilization and a specific aspect of that civilization. Invited to launch their inquiry by collecting visual evidence in the form of images, videos and drawings, students designed a visual piece to express their thinking and creativity. More research was conducted and students used their evidence to compose an expository piece of writing based on their investigation. Below is an example of an expository piece written by Yumi full of fascinating historical details. The writing system in the Incan civilization is one of the most unique things ever created in history. The Incan civilization began in 1438 and ended in 1533 after the Spanish empire conquered the Incas. To begin with, the Incas did not develop any kind of full writing system to represent letters or numbers except a few drawings that symbolize simple words we use in our everyday lives. The Incas used a spoken language named Quechua which is still used today estimated by 8 million people but the use of this language has decreased from older times and it is slowly dying day by day.
