South Sudan: Humanitarian Access Snapshot (September 2017) OVERVIEW In September, humanitarian organizations continued to experience incidents of the incidents involved violence a growing number of impediments in accessing conflict-affected reported in against humanitarian personnel and Manyo people in many locations in South Sudan. 101 access incidents September 2017 assets were reported by partners. Two aid workers were killed in September, including one in Melut an armed ambush on a marked humanitarian convoy on 8 Septem- Pariang Fashoda Abyei region ber in Mundri West County, and an NGO community teacher killed Unity Malakal Abiemnhom Panyikang P 6 Rubkona Baliet in the Bentiu Protection of Civilian (PoC) site. Aweil East Malakal Aweil North Bentiu P Guit 2 Twic Mayom Upper Nile There were nine looting incidents reported in September, Longochuk Aweil West Fangak Canal/Pigi compared to two in August in Central, Eastern and Western Aweil Gogrial East P Gogrial Luakpiny/Nasir Raja Aweil South West Maiwut Equatoria, Unity, Upper Nile, Lakes, and Warrap. In Gogrial East 19Koch Northern Nyirol Ulang County, armed men ambushed an NGO vehicle along Wau - Bahr el Ghazal Kuajok P 5 Tonj North Ayod Luanyakier road on 8 September and looted all humanitarian Aweil Centre supplies. In Kapoeta East County, a ten-vehicle convoy transporting Warrap Leer ETHIOPIA CENTRAL Wau Tonj East Mayendit food aid to Maghos and Jie was looted by civilians leading to loss P Uror AFRICAN Western Bahr of significant amounts of food destined for the hungry. Duk Akobo REPUBLIC el Ghazal Rumbek North Panyijiar Jur River Wau The eruption of clashes and insecurity in some locations in Unity, Rumbek Twic East 2 8 Cueibet Centre Pochalla Upper Nile and Western Equatoria forced the relocation of at least Rumbek P Tonj South 89 aid workers in September. In Koch County, partners suspended Jonglei Rumbek East 11 Yirol East food airdrops and distributions on 8 September in Buaw and Buoh Nagero Lakes Bor South following reports of insecurity. The suspension affected nearly Yirol West Pibor Wulu P Bor 25,000 people in the two locations.
