Thomas Jefferson homas Jefferson was born April 13, 1743 in Virginia. His father was a wealthy landowner. He began his T career as a magistrate with the local government. At the same time (1772) he married Martha Wayles Skelton, and built the family home in Monticello, Virginia still. Monticello remained her homeport throughout his life, and Jefferson will constantly upgrade his house. n 1776, as a member of Congress, he was chosen to write the Declaration of Independence of the United States. He opposed the power of the I occupant (Great Britain), and in particular that of the king. Wanting to apply his political ideas, Jefferson was elected Governor of Virginia. However, his two years in office are perceived as a failure: it is faced with a lack of opportunities for action, and a British invasion. Jefferson went to the France, where he became ambassador to the United States, and negotiates commercial treaties. hen he returned to the United States in 1790, he became Secretary of State George Washington, the first President of the United W States. He opposed another Secretary of State, Hamilton, about reports that the United States must maintain with France and Great Britain, and resigned in 1793. He founded the Republican Party, he represents the Presidential Election of 1796, where he was beaten by John Adams. He became the President of the United States in 1800 for two mandates. The first is marked by the purchase of Louisiana, and support for expeditions of Lewis and Clark. The second is more difficult. War raged in Europe between France and Great Britain, and Jefferson insists neutrality of the United States in this conflict. He decided in 1807 an embargo against these two countries, but this much weakened the U.S. economy and will be misunderstood by the public. or his inventions, Jefferson invented or improved various objects such as encryption machine rolls, macaroni machine, polygraph, and Fcylinder objects (clocks, swivel chair ...), some of which are visible in his villa Monticello. He founded a university in Virginia and died July 4, 1826..
