Filiation: a Historical Term the COVID-19 Outbreak Recalled in Turkey
354 Erciyes Med J 2020; 42(3): 354–8 • DOI: 10.14744/etd.2020.54782 HISTORY OF MEDICINE – REVIEW – OPEN ACCESS This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License. Filiation: A Historical Term the COVID-19 Outbreak Recalled in Turkey Türev Demirtaş1 , Halil Tekiner2 ABSTRACT Originally derived from the Medieval Latin word, fīliātiō (from fīlius, son), filiation literally means paternity, descent-from- father, or line of descent. Concerning medicine, however, it refers to the connection of things resulting from one another, or contact tracing. The core idea behind filiation as a measure of precaution against outbreaks is to prevent the disease by interrupting the chain of transmission with a systematical tracing and isolation of susceptible individuals having contact with any confirmed cases. Filiation became a widely used medical term in the first quarter of the 19th century, primarily in French medical literature, soon adapted to English and some other languages. In the Ottoman Empire, it appeared in medical journals in the 1850s, used primarily by some European physicians practicing in the country. As part of various measures that have been taken to tackle the current pandemic of COVID-19, the method of filiation was also recalled by the medical community. Soon after the observance of the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Turkey on March 11, 2020, the index case and its contacts were identified and the Turkish Ministry of Health launched the procedures of filiation at a national level with ad-hoc medical teams established around the country. Aiming to shed light on the etymological and historical aspects of filiation, the current review discusses the concept based on original resources. -

The Federal Advisor a Policy and Political Update from Washington, D.C
The Federal Advisor A policy and political update from Washington, D.C. January 2021 Dear Friends, On Wednesday, January 13th, the House voted to impeach President Trump for the second time, charging him with “incitement of insurrection” after the violence and rioting last week at the Capitol, where five people tragically died. With that vote, he is the only President in history to be impeached twice. The final vote tally was 232 to 197, with 10 Republicans in support. The timing and next steps of a possible Senate trial are unclear, though Leader McConnell indicated that there will be no trial before Mr. Biden is inaugurated next week. See below for more on Derek N. Harley Senior Vice President of Federal Affairs the impeachment vote and what’s next. Shumaker Advisors, LLC 419.321.1256 [email protected] With the Democratic challengers prevailing in both Georgia runoff races on January 5th, the Democrats will have de facto control of the U.S. Senate with Vice President-elect Kamala Harris casting a tie-breaking vote. For more on how a 50-50 Democratic- Republican Senate split works, and what it could mean for President-elect Biden’s agenda and cabinet appointments, see below. Turkey Vaccinates One Million People in First Week 20 January 2021
Turkey vaccinates one million people in first week 20 January 2021 Tuesday. But while Turkey has signed up for 50 million doses of CoronaVac, it is due to receive just three million by the end of the month, limiting the potential pace of the rollout. In December, Turkey also reached a deal to receive 4.5 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech jab by late March. Ankara has officially registered 24,328 COVID-19 deaths and nearly 2.4 million virus infections but has never seen its daily death toll exceed 300, avoiding the grim death rates recorded in European Credit: Unsplash/CC0 Public Domain countries such as Britain and Italy. © 2021 AFP Turkey has vaccinated more than one million people against the novel coronavirus in the first week of a national inoculation drive, according to health ministry figures issued Wednesday. But the drive has lost some of its momentum after more than 600,000 people were inoculated in the first two days. Turkey began the campaign with the CoronaVac jab produced by China's Sinovac last Thursday. On Tuesday, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca called Turkey's progress "one of the fastest in the world". In comparison, France had vaccinated around 585,000 people by Tuesday, after starting its campaign on December 28. Turkey has now given a first shot to more than one percent of the population of more than 83 million people. The campaign kicked off with healthcare workers and moved on to those over the age of 80 on 1 / 2 APA citation: Turkey vaccinates one million people in first week (2021, January 20) retrieved 27 September 2021 from https://medicalxpress.com/news/2021-01-turkey-vaccinates-million-people- week.html This document is subject to copyright. -
