Our Eagles Senior Winter Team finished on top of the ladder for the season and now start their finals campaign.
Greetings everyone and welcome to our August Newsletter. It is with great excitement that we an announce that the start of the new season is only weeks away! Our seniors will be the first to take to the fields, then followed by our Juniors and Masters teams. The season fixture for the seniors will be released soon and the full details regarding registration and the junior program is not far away. Please see the following pages with all of the Eagles news and the special notices on our lead page below. This is going to be a huge season and we look forward to sharing it with you all !!
BRETT WARD - BASEBALL AUSTRALIA HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE Baseball Australia just announced the 2018 Hall of Fame inductees, and Baseball Victoria is proud to confirm the induction of Brett Ward, who has enjoyed a decorated baseball career in Victoria. He’s joined by fellow inductees Ben Shom, Greg Elkson and Mark Ettles. Ward is the 16th Victorian to be welcomed into the Hall of Fame. His long list of contributions to the sport in our state is a testament to his abilities, both as a player and a team leader. Brett Ward has been a constant in Australian baseball circles since his debut in the Victorian State League for Coburg in 1977. Ward broke onto the national scene in 1979, as he was a key part of Victoria’s U18 National Championship, while also representing Australia’s U18 team in the same year. Fast-forward five years and Ward was a regular in Victoria’s Claxton Shield line-up, where he claimed two championships in 1984 and 1986. Ward has the distinction of hitting the first home run at the Altona Baseball Stadium, and was named in Victoria’s Claxton Shield All-Star team. Brett Ward played for Sunshine from 1986 to 1990.
BRIAN LANE - USA RECRUIT FOR THE EAGLES We are please to announce that our import for this season will be Brian Lane. Brian comes to the club having been a JUCO All-American in 2016 and completing his college career at Delta State University. Brian came highly recommended for both his offensive and defensive prowess, but more importantly for us was the recommendation of how great a team mate and team player he was. We look forward to seeing Brian ply his trade on the field for us this summer.
CITY WEST JUNIOR WINTER BASEBALL LEAGUE FINALS It was a great day last Saturday to finish off the season for our juniors participating in the newly formed City West Winter Baseball League. There were 4 finals games held on the day at Newport with all U13s and U15s team participating. There were two Major finals and two Minor finals, so everyone enjoyed the experience and made the most of their opportunities. Congratulations to all club and players involved and especially to our Eagles and their parents Ana, Dave and Melinda for volunteering their time throughout the season and for being a part of our inaugural junior winter season.

Winter Senior Eagles Winter Junior Eagles Our senior Men's winter team start their Congratula ons to Hobson Bay Red with finals campaign this Sat Sept 1st at home our 2 Eagles players who proudly playing Alredton (1.pm). If the guys win, they represented our club in the recent U15s are straight into the Grand final in 2 weeks Minor Final at Newport. Well done on a great season Connor me. ~ SENIOR SKILLS ~ It was a great training session for the senior and juniors players that joined in this morning and it was made even be er with Mark Doubleday coming down to pass on his fine skills and baseball knowledge to the lads. Great work guys and thanks Mark, we sure appreciated seeing you down at the Eagles Dome again.
~ JUNIOR SKILLS ~ Today was the last of our pre-season junior skills sessions and it was well a ended by our keen Eagles. A massive thanks goes to Cain and Stu for taking the juniors under their wings and to all of the other senior players, Chad, Tolly, Dave, Adam, Griffin, Ronny and to everyone else involved who assisted. These programs are so important for our juniors and we certainly appreciate the involvement of everyone. Thanks !!!!!
~ COME AND TRY DAY ~ Last Sunday was our last come and try day and it was just fantas c to say the least. We have had some terrific kids and families visit our club over the last 3 weeks and it just makes all the hard work worthwhile. Thanks to everyone who a ended and I am taking my hat of now to everyone who helped out and who make these days possible. You all know who you are and I certainly am apprecia ve of you giving up your me to help with the pre-season recrui ng program.
