2018–19 ANNUAL REPORT SCALING WORK-BASED LEARNING INCREASES IMPACT FOR ALL INTERMEDIARY SERVICES PAVE A PATHWAY TO SUCCESS MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Through the faithful support of our donors, partners, volunteers, students, and staff, we have accomplished so much over the past year. I am proud to share these successes in our 2018–19 Annual Report to demonstrate that an investment in GPS Education Partners is an investment in transformational growth for our youth and economic growth for our communities. Last year, your investment allowed another 99 GPSEd students that needed more than the traditional high school environment could offer, to not just earn their diploma, but also gain credentials and industry certifications that put them on a new pathway to prosperity. Sebastian, a graduate from our Class of 2019, was one of those students. Uncertain of his future and disengaged from his traditional classroom learning, he embarked on a work-based learning journey that provided him with structured work experiences and related coursework to help him connect the dots and achieve academic and career success. Today, Sebastian is working in his chosen career pathway as a machinist at Komatsu and earning a significant salary while also attending technical college. There are many stories like Sebastian's that keep us inspired to meet our goal to reach 10,000 students by the year 2025. I am particularly proud that 2019 was the year we expanded our work into new industries that will help scale work-based learning to more students in more communities across the Midwest and beyond. Our work developing new career pathways for the HVAC/R and service industries will provide students with even more access to high-demand jobs in fields that are essential to our economic growth. 2018 was also a year of growth in our Early Career Awareness Programming. A successful pilot program with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater and MPS Barack Obama School of Career Technical Education (SCTE) reached 75 ninth grade students who got a hands-on introduction to the world of work by engaging in career awareness/ work-based learning activities. That program is now expanding throughout the region with more schools and community-based organizations ready to expose their students to technical careers. Aside from contributions from our business and school partners, GPSEd is honored to have been chosen this year by some amazing organizations as a benefactor of grant funding to continue providing students with work+learn experiences that will lead them to a more sustainable future. To have others in the community recognize our deep commitment to work-based learning means there is more than pride in our work—we have meaningful results and confidence in our future. It’s clear that when you make an investment in GPSEd, we all get something back; a brighter future with our youth better prepared to work! Your partner in student success,
