The Parish of St Fagans and Michaelston-super-Ely

22 November 2020 – Christ the King - 4th Sunday of Kingdom

Eternal Father, whose Son Jesus Christ ascended to the throne of heaven that he might rule over all things as Lord and King: keep the Church in the unity of the Spirit and in the bond of peace, and bring the whole created order to worship at his feet; grant this for the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, to whom with you and the Holy Spirit, be the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen

Our website is currently hosted by the Church in Wales. However, support for this site is going to be withdrawn in the near future which means St Mary’s needs to generate a new website for the Parish. Consequently we are looking for someone to do this for us. So if you or anyone you know has experience of setting up a website and is willing and able to help please can you contact Celia Watchman by email ([email protected]) On Saturday 28th November from 10am to 11am, there will be a Home Produce Sale and Raffle at 11 Deepwood Close CF5 4SJ in aid of church funds. Orders taken and local deliveries available. Please contact Margaret ( 02920659576) for further information.

Services will feel different as we follow strict Church in Wales hygiene and distancing guidelines to ensure the safety of every worshipper. We will ensure that we have a COVID secure environment.

In the coming weeks there will be services both at 8am & 10.30am. I would like to encourage people who would normally attend at 10.30 to consider attending at 8am as there will be less seating available due to the 2 metre distancing regulations. Since singing is not permitted the services will all be shorter due to the COVID restrictions the services at 8am and 10.30am will be very similar so please think about changing your worship pattern whilst these restrictions are in place.

Please arrive 10 minutes early; you will be asked to hand sanitise and register your attendance (for tracing if necessary)

Face coverings must be worn in church

You will be seated by our welcome team in designated pews/seats to ensure you are at least 2 metres from others.

You will asked to pick up your own order of service and readings/newsletter to avoid infection.

There will be no physical sharing of the peace or hymn singing, and the sacrament of Holy Communion will be shared in one kind (bread) distributed where you are seated to keep contact to an absolute minimum.

At the end of the service please remain in your place until you are guided to leave - please return your order of service but take your newsletter/readings home.you will be asked to hand sanitise again as you depart.

Sadly, we cannot raise a glass or share coffee together at the end of the service and whilst we know it will be hard not to greet, hug and kiss church friends or gather in huddles at the door please follow the guidelines imposed upon us by spreading out as you leave the church for everyone’s safety.

I very much hope you will all return to church

There will be no offertory collection but please place your weekly offering for the ministry and mission of our church in the plate on entering or departing the building.

Best wishes Vicki

Advent Call to Prayer

Advent prayer for Wales The Bishops are inviting everyone to join them in prayer every evening at 6pm from Advent Sunday on November 29 to Christmas Day.

The prayer asks for God’s healing and blessing on our nation and can be adapted for those of a different faith or tradition.

“Christians believe that God’s light (the light of truth, the light of justice, the light of love) shines in the world and, no matter how dark things become, whether because of COVID or other troubles and difficulties, yet there is always hope in God’s goodness and love,” say the Bishops. “For us, that light shines most fully in Jesus, whom we believe is God at work, entering the world to share our pain and to bring healing.”

“We are sure that the healing, the strength, the compassion and the courage for which we will be praying are important to all people, whether of faith or not. Whatever our beliefs, we can all wish good cheer and well-being to everyone in Wales in this season.” A Carol For Wales

With carol services in churches unlikely to happen this year, an old Welsh tradition is being revived – singing carols from outside our homes. Click on the below link to read more https://www.churchinwales.org.uk/en/about-us/our-campaigns/darkness- light/carol-wales/
