COUSINS INTRODUCED BY FAMILY HISTORY PROJECT Cousins have met for the first time since being intro- duced by Alyth Family History Project, amazing enough, but even more so since one cousin lives in Edinburgh, the others in Canada! Jennifer Dunlop of Edinburgh explains “Cliff and Ar- leigh Johnston are 4th Cousins of mine going back to David Alexander (1758-1824) and Jean Craigie (1767- 1853) whose son David (1809-1878) is Johnston line and their daughter Janet (1800-1891) is my line. We were introduced through the Alyth Family History Pro- ject, and finally met up in Edinburgh on 25th July 2011. Until the connection through the FHP we did not even know that each other existed! Thank you AFHP.” © J. Ralston BONNY BLOOMING HEATHER over Easter Cammock Hill up Glenisla captured on camera by Jenny Ralston in early September.

Remembrance Sunday – Sunday 13th November 2011 Remembrance Day and the Two Minute Silence have been observed since the end of the First World War, but their relevance remains undiminished. When we bow our heads in reflection, we remember those who fought for our freedom during the two World Wars. But we also mourn and honour those who have lost their lives in more recent conflicts. Today, with troops on duty in Afghanistan and other trouble spots around the world, Remem- brance, and this two minute tribute are as important as ever. At the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month. The Two Minute Silence is observed on Armistice Day, the day which marks the end of the First World War. The Royal British Legion has always supported the traditional Re- membrance Sunday services and the customary Two Minute Silence on that day. As the national custodian of Remembrance, the Legion also believes that when 11 November (Armistice Day) falls on days other than Sundays - on working days - Remembrance should be brought into the everyday life of the nation on those days as well. The revival of support for observance of this demonstrates that, despite the passing of the years and the declining number of veterans, the nation still feels strongly about Remembrance. Remembrance transcends all boundaries. The Legion seeks a small yet important individual and collective act, a rare moment when the nation can stand together and reflect on the price of freedom. That price is still being paid. More than 12,000 British Servicemen and women have been killed or injured on active service since 1945. "If we are to maintain our peace and freedom, we must always remember." Remembrance Day activities will take place on Sunday 13th Novem- ber 2011. A Service of Remembrance will take place in Alyth Parish Church commencing at 1045 and will be followed by a parade of our Standards to the War Memorial. Please join the parade. The parade will be led by Altyh & District Pipe Band and will follow the traditional route from the church, Bamff Road, Airlie Street to the War Memorial where a service will be conducted. Remembrance Sun- day always falls on the second Sunday in November. Future dates are 13 November 2011, 11 November 2012, 10 November 2013 28
