E.Killam The Interfraternity Council, composed of two members from each national social fraternity and Dean Field as faculty adviser, acts as the governing body of all social fraternities on the Tech campus. The main activity of the council is the sponsoring of two sets of dances each year. MA( MAHON Alpha Tau Omega was founded September 11, 1865, at Virginia Military Institute, and it now has ninety-three chapters with a membership of more than forty thousand. The local chapter, Beta Iota, was established on September 18, 1888, being the oldest fra- ternity on the Tech campus. Always a producer of a large share of campus leaders, the A. T. Founded at Miami University in 1839, it now has ninety chapters, with a total membership of more than forty-five thousand. The local chapter, Gamma Eta, was installed at Tech in 1917 and has been well represented by its members in nearly all campus organizations and activities. Outstanding among the Beta seniors arc Johnny Bier, chapter president, 0. D. K., Anak, business manager of BLUE PRINT; Dan Edwards, president of Phi Psi; John Schott, vice-president of the Oil Can Club; John Rogers, treasurer of Pi Delta Epsilon; John Spalding, advertising manager of YELLOW JACKET; Sam Hodges, editor of Georgia Tech Alumnus. Beta Theta Pi is also prominent socially, having numerous house dances and parties during the year, including: hayride with the Phi Gam's, the Miami Triad Dance, given for the first time this year, and the Beta Kid Party. SMITH D. P. YARRINGTON J. M. JENNINGS C. C. MUSE Chi Phi, known as the oldest national college fraternity, was founded at the College of New Jersey (Princeton) in 1824. The Omega Chapter was established at Georgia Tech in 1904, being the first fraternity to own its own house. Vale Winkleman and Perry Blackshear were outstanding in the senior activities. Vale was commander of the naval battalion, a member of the fencing team, president of Foil and Mask, president of the Navigators Club, and a member of Scabbard and Blade. Perry was a captain in the CAC, member of Skull and Key, Bull- dog, president of Oil Can Club, president of ASME, a member of Scabbard and Blade, and made his numerals in swimming. The fraternity as a whole took part in the activities on the cam- pus, including softball, bowling, football, and swimming. VICKNAIR Chi Psi, a national conservative fraternity, was founded at Union College on May 20, 1841. There arc now twenty-four active chap- ters of Chi Psi, and each chapter owns its own house, or Lodge, as they have been referred to for over one hundred years. The local chapter, Alpha Iota Delta, was installed December 15, 1923, when a local fraternity, Delta Kappa Chi, was granted a charter. The social events of Chi Psi at Tech include the annual Hal- lowe'en dance, Thanksgiving dance, Christmas party, the Chi Psi formal, the birthday banquet and dance, and the annnual Fall and Spring houseparties.     Fort Hays State University Greek Life Semester Report Spring 2013 The Fort Hays State University fraternity and sorority community is comprised of two sororities (Alpha Gamma Delta and Delta Zeta) and five fraternities (Alpha Gamma Rho, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Chi, Sigma Phi Epsilon Colony, and Tau Kappa Epsilon), representing 178 students. Information was self-reported by each chapter president. Community Service 2,267 hours performed during semester 12.74 hours of service performed per member Philanthropy $4,860 total donated to local and national philanthropies by individual chapters $27.30 per member donated Co-curricular Involvement 82% of Fraternity/Sorority members are involved in co-curricular or community organizations. National Recognition Each year the Association of Fraternal Leadership & Values (AFLV) recognizes outstanding councils with the presentation of awards. This year, the Fort Hays State University Interfraternity Council won Programming Excellence Awards for Council Management and Risk Reduction & Management.     Timeline of Fraternities and Sororities at Texas Tech 1923 • On February 10th, Texas Technological College was founded. 1924 • On June 27th, the Board of Directors voted not to allow Greek-lettered organizations on campus. 1925 • Texas Technological College opened its doors. The college consisted of six buildings, and 914 students enrolled. 1926 • Las Chaparritas was the first women’s club on campus and functioned to unite girls of a common interest through association and engaging in social activities. • Sans Souci – another women’s social club – was founded. 1927 • The first master’s degree was offered at Texas Technological College. 1928 • On November 21st, the College Club was founded. 1929 • The Centaur Club was founded and was the first Men’s social club on the campus whose members were all college students. • In October, The Silver Key Fraternity was organized. • In October, the Wranglers fraternity was founded. 1930 • The “Matador Song” was adopted as the school song. • Student organizations had risen to 54 in number – about 1 for every 37 students. o There were three categories of student organizations: . Devoted to academic pursuits, and/or achievements, and career development • Ex. Aggie Club, Pre-Med, and Engineering Club . Special interest organizations • Ex. Debate Club and the East Texas Club . Social Clubs • Las Camaradas was organized. • In the spring, Las Vivarachas club was organized. • On March 2nd, DFD was founded at Texas Technological College. It was the only social organization on the campus with a name and meaning known only to its members. • On March 3rd, The Inter-Club Council was founded, which ultimately divided into the Men’s Inter-Club Council and the Women’s Inter-Club Council.
