Delegates Meeting Reports By Shirley Nebergall, FFP OCTA Delegate

The third OCTA Northwest Region delegates meeting of the 2017-2018 season was held on Saturday, April 14, at The Village Players. The meeting was attended by 16 people (including six NW regional reps and two OCTA board members).

Meeting highlights included:

 Delegates received the regional packets, and Michelle Johnson, OCTAFest Chair, went over the forms and rule changes and answered delegates’ questions. (Dan Maloney will be the OCTAFest chair for the NW Regional as this would be a conflict of interest for Michelle.)

 It was noted that theaters who will be excerpting shows at regional from Samuel French would need to get permission ASAP as they are requiring forms to be completed 60 days in advance.

 The new registration fees were reiterated:  Registration before May 29; $15 for one day, $25 for both days  From May 29 to June 8; $20 for one day, $30 for both days  At the door; $25 for one day, $35 for both days (plan ahead, if you register for one day and then decide to do both, you will have to pay the one-day fee for the next day, not the difference between one day and two days.)  Registration fees for large cast shows (26-50 and 51+) were also reviewed.  To register, go to www.octanorthwest.com and go to Northwest Regional Info

 As a security/safety issue, wristbands will be issued to all regional attendees. Each day there will be a color for those presenting an excerpt and a different color for those not involved in an excerpt. These will be checked by door security volunteers each time you enter the auditorium. These can be removed for the excerpt by the stage manager and new ones will be issued after the excerpt.

 The deadline to pre-order regional T-shirts is May 25, there will be no shirts available at regional. Shirts are $10 ($12 for sizes 2X-5X).These can be ordered by going to www.octanorthwest.com and then to Northwest Regional Info.

 Anyone who volunteers to work at regional, and not attend any excerpts will NOT have to pay any registration fees. But you will need to register! If you work for half of a day and want to see the excerpts in the other half, you will only have to pay $10 for that day. A 4-hour, 2-shift block is required for this special rate. (See ‘Volunteers Needed’ on page seven to sign up.)

 Plans are being made to have an excerpt of an original work presented at regional while the adjudicators are deliberating.

The fourth OCTA Northwest Region delegates meeting of the 2017-2018 season was held on Sunday, April 29, at Owens Community College Center for Fine and Performing Arts. This walk-the-stage meeting date was chosen due to scheduling conflicts with Owens. The meeting was attended by 13 people (including three NW regional reps, two OCTA board members, and two representatives from Owens).

This meeting focused on specifics and personnel for regional weekend. Those present were shown load-in doors, location of curtain positions, and light grids. Attendees were able to have their questions answered regarding all aspects of excerpting at regional.

The next delegates meeting will be over the Sunday lunch break at regional. At this point the excerpts will be Saturday and Sunday June 9 and 10. There is a possibility of also using Friday, June 8, if there are enough excerpts. Conversely, if there aren’t enough excerpts for two days, Saturday could be the only day.
