Concerning the Lord’s Supper… Worthy reception of the Lord’s Supper: Fasting and bodily preparation are certainly fine outward training. But that person is truly worthy and well prepared who has faith in these words; “given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins.” But anyone who does not believe these words or doubts them is unworthy and unprepared, for the words “for you” require all hearts to believe. (Luther’s Small ) We encourage your individual preparation for the Lord’s Supper. Luther’s “Christian Questions and Answers” (pp. 329-330 in the hymnal) are wonderful aids in preparation. You may also wish to meditate on the sacramental hymns (617-643). The Lord’s blood can be received by common cup or individual cup. Gluten-free wafers are available, please tell the Pastor if you would like one; and non-alcoholic wine is available at the center of the tray. Confession and Absolution The sign of the cross may be made by all in remembrance of their Baptism.

P In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the . C Amen.

P Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto God our Father, be- seeching Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness.

P Our help is in the name of the Lord, C who made heaven and earth. P I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord, C and You forgave the iniquity of my sin.

Silence for reflection on God's Word and for self-examination.

P O almighty God, merciful Father, C I, a poor, miserable sinner, confess unto You all my sins and iniquities with which I have ever offended You and justly deserved Your temporal and eternal punishment. But I am heartily sorry for them and sincerely repent of them, and I pray You of Your boundless mercy and for the sake of the holy, innocent, bitter sufferings and death of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to be gracious and merciful to me, a poor, sinful being.

P Upon this your confession, I, by virtue of my office, as a called and ordained servant of the Word, an- nounce the grace of God unto all of you, and in the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen.

Service of the Word

Introit Ps. 28:7–9; antiphon: Ps. 28:6

Blessèd | be the Lord!* For he has heard the voice of my pleas for | mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and | I am helped;* my heart exults, and with my song I give | thanks to him. The Lord is the strength of his | people;* he is the saving refuge of his a- | nointed. Oh, save your people and bless your | heritage!* Be their shepherd and carry them for- | ever.

Blessèd | be the Lord!* For he has heard the voice of my pleas for | mercy.

Salutation and Collect of the Day

P Almighty and eternal God, Your Son Jesus triumphed over the prince of demons and freed us from bondage to sin. Help us to stand firm against every assault of Satan, and enable us always to do Your will; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Old Testament Reading Genesis 3:8–15 They heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. But the LORD God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.” He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.” Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” The LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and above all beasts of the field; on your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life. I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”

A This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God.

Psalm 130

Out | of the depths* I cry to you, | O Lord!

O Lord, | hear my voice!* Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my pleas for | mercy!

If you, O Lord, should mark in- | iquities,* O Lord, | who could stand?

But with you there is for- | giveness,* that you | may be feared.

I wait for the Lord, my | soul waits,* and in his | word I hope;

my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the | morning,* more than watchmen for the | morning.

O Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is | steadfast love,* and with him is plentiful re- | demption.

And he will redeem | Israel* from all his in- | iquities. Glory be to the Father and | to the Son* and to the Holy | Spirit; as it was in the be- | ginning,* is now, and will be forever. | Amen.

Epistle 2 Corinthians 4:13—5:1 Since we have the same spirit of faith according to what has been written, “I believed, and so I spoke,” we also believe, and so we also speak, knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence. For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God. So we do not lose heart. Though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being re- newed day by day. For this slight momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glo- ry beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are un- seen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. For we know that if the tent, which is our earthly home, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

A This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God.

Holy Gospel :20–35 P The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, the third chapter.

Then [Jesus] went home, and the crowd gathered again, so that they could not even eat. And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for they were saying, “He is out of his mind.” And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and “by the prince of demons he casts out the demons.” And he called them to him and said to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but is coming to an end. But no one can en- ter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. Then indeed he may plunder his house. “Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the children of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eter- nal sin”— for they had said, “He has an .” And his mother and his brothers came, and standing outside they sent to him and called him. And a crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers are outside, seeking you.” And he answered them, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” And looking about at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.”

P This is the Gospel of the Lord.

C Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into . The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life T everlasting. Amen.

Service of the Sacrament

Lord's Supper Statement of Faith: As Lutheran Christians, we believe and teach that Christ's body and blood are truly present in, with, and under the bread and wine in Holy Communion. We also believe that, as we receive Christ in this meal with penitent and believing hearts, we receive all the treasured blessings that He earned for us. If you share this confession, then come; taste and see the goodness of the Lord!

Preface 2 Timothy 4:22; Colossians 3:1 Psalm 136

P It is truly meet, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who on this day over- came death and the grave and by His glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. Therefore with and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying:

Distribution

The pastor and those who assist him receive the body and blood of Christ first and then distribute them to those who come to receive, saying:

Take, eat; this is the true body of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, given into death for your sins. Amen.

Take, drink; this is the true blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, shed for the forgiveness of your sins. Amen.

Jesus Christ, My Sure Defense LSB 741

5 Glorified, I shall anew 7 Laugh to scorn the gloomy grave With this flesh then be enshrouded; And at death no longer tremble; In this body I shall view He, the Lord, who came to save God, my Lord, with eyes unclouded; Will at last His own assemble. In this flesh I then shall see They will go their Lord to meet, Jesus Christ eternally. Treading death beneath their feet.

6 Then take comfort and rejoice, 8 O, then, draw away your hearts For His members Christ will cherish. From all pleasures base and hollow; Fear not, they will hear His voice; Strive to share what He imparts Dying, they will never perish; While you here His footsteps follow. For the very grave is stirred As you now still wait to rise, When the trumpet’s blast is heard. Fix your hearts beyond the skies!

I Walk in Danger All the Way LSB 716

5 I walk with Jesus all the way, His guidance never fails me; Within His wounds I find a stay When Satan’s pow’r assails me; And by His footsteps led, My path I safely tread. No evil leads my soul astray; I walk with Jesus all the way.

6 My walk is heav’nward all the way; Await, my soul, the morrow, When God’s good healing shall allay All suff’ring, sin, and sorrow. Then, worldly pomp, begone! To heav’n I now press on. For all the world I would not stay; My walk is heav’nward all the way.
