Beginner=s Luck... It is only six years since Seamus Kennedy became involved in the bloodstock business but now--with business partner Michael Woodlock--he owns one of those mares every breeder dreams about having. Diary (Ire) (Green Desert) was sold for 7,000gns as a two-year-old by Darley and went on to win three races in Greece. Returning to the 2005 Tattersalls February Sale, she was picked up by Kennedy for just 11,000gns. AIt was both the pedigree and the individual that appealed to me and I just got that crazy feeling when I saw her,@ recalled Kennedy. Now 10, the mare was sent to Namid (GB) by her new owners and the resultant colt--Total Gallery (Ire)--has proved a great flagbearer for her breeders, who race as Coleman Bloodstock. AHe=s going really well at the moment, and he=ll hope- fully win out there," added Kennedy. But Diary (Ire) has been no one-hit wonder. The bloodstock market can often take foal from Diary (Ire), an own-sister to Lady Darshaan against a stallion quite easily.@ Cont. p3 (Ire). AShe=s a really lovely looking filly and it=s just worked out that we have our best bunch of foals this year,@ Kennedy continued. Diary (Ire) is in foal to Tamayuz (GB) this year. AIt=s great to have worked my way up since starting out at the bottom,@ he added. AThe focus is now very much on quality rather than numbers with the mares.@

AARONESS (f, 3, Distorted Humor--Diamonds for Lil, by Summer Squall), a $290,000 KEENOV weanling and $550,000 KEESEP yearling, began her career in Ireland for trainer Jim Bolger. After winning once in four tries at two, the bay began 2009 with a runner-up finish in the G3 1000 Guineas Trial S. at Leopardstown May 10, then ran ninth in the G3 Gallinule S. at The Curragh May 24. She ran second in a conditions race at Navan June 12--with Breeders= Cup Marathon winner Man of Iron (Giant=s Causeway) third--but was packed off to America following a last-of-seven effort in the Listed Celebration S. at The Curragh June 28. A close third in her U.S. debut at Delaware Sept. 5, she ran second over yielding ground at Keeneland Oct. 11, and was shedding blinkers this time. The 6-5 chalk settled near the back of the pack and was angled to the outside turning for home. She looked to be treading water in midstretch, but was spurred on when Cruisin=nthebridle (Unbridled=s Song) came to her right hip and dug in to prevail by 3/4 of a length. It was the fourth win on the card for jockey Julien Leparoux. Click for the brisnet.com chart. Video, sponsored by Taylor Made. Lifetime Record: GSP-Ire, 12-2-3-2, $110,270. O-June Judd.
