From: Jayaprakash D. Kambhampaty, IFC Judicial Committee Chairman

To: Christopher Womack, President

CC: Liz Jason, Assistant Dean, FSILGs James Reed, Assistant Dean, Office of Student Conduct

Dear Christopher,

This letter is to notify you of the resolution of a report filed by the MIT Police regarding the night of December 11th, 2019. The report indicated that the officer was called to Phi Delta Theta for a noise complaint. Based on this information, Phi Delta Theta may have violated the following policies:

MIT Mind and Hand Book II (6). Disorderly Conduct MIT prohibits disorderly conduct. Disorderly conduct is defined as any unreasonable or reckless conduct by an individual or group that is inherently or potentially unsafe to other persons or to their real or personal property, and/or any behavior that disrupts the peace or interferes with the normal operation of the Institute or Institute-sponsored activities. Disorderly conduct includes making unreasonable noise, disrupting a lawful meeting, obstructing pedestrian or vehicle traffic, or creating a hazardous situation.

After reviewing the police report, I have decided to resolve this case administratively. Based on the information in the report, I find Phi Delta Theta responsible for violating policy II (6) in the MIT Mind and Hand Book. Phi Delta Theta was found responsible because the house was noisy to a degree than disturbed its neighbors. However, immediate compliance with police instructions and a lack of any other issues suggest that the incident does not require additional administrative action.

This finding of responsibility will be recorded as an organizational warning, which is considered a warning from MIT that Phi Delta Theta’s behavior in this situation violated Institute expectations. This warning should encourage additional caution in the future. Please note that this letter to file does not directly impose any loss of privileges on Phi Delta Theta. However, if you are involved in any type of misconduct in the future, this letter will be considered in determining how your case should be heard and during sanctioning.
