Independence for you, peace of mind for your family

Your Telecare service, ensuring help is there when needed

SurreyTelecare Your Local Council Partnership What is telecare? Telecare is a 24-hour service using simple equipment to help potentially vulnerable people live more independently in their homes. The basic kit consists of a telecare unit together with a pendant for the user to wear. Automatic alerts can also be sent by a variety of additional sensors such as smoke alarms, fall detectors or pill dispensers to name a few.

Visit www.surreytelecare.com to see what equipment is available and how they can help individuals who have a range of needs, keeping them and their family members safe. So how does telecare work? Step 1: The unit is linked to a care centre by the telephone line and can be activated by either pressing the button on the pendant or remotely via another telecare sensor. Step 2: Once activated a signal is sent directly to the care centre and answered by an operator. The operator will know who the user is, where they live and the details of their emergency contacts. Step 3: Each alarm has a sensitive microphone and built-in speaker so the operator can hear the user easily, without the person having to be close to the unit. Step 4: The operator will then arrange assistance and organise help, even if the user is unable to communicate with them. Why have telecare? Generally customers tell us that telecare has given them and their loved ones: l Peace of mind l A feeling of greater security l Reduced feelings of isolation l An immediate response and support. We find people who use our service include those: l Who live alone l Are feeling vulnerable because of reduced mobility, a long term condition or a disability l Have been a victim of, or have a fear of, crime l Care for a partner or loved one.

Telecare can give particular support and reassurance to carers, helping them to continue their caring role and have a life outside caring. What does it cost?
