Namaste,

Almost a century ago, Yoga was considered only for the solitary – like monks and other religious people. Its was wrongly understood that if householders took up this practice, they would abandon their families. Yoga is more for the householder who needs the yogic equilibrium, state of mind at every moment of his life. Householder yogi needs it more than the recluse because the householder has to put up with the imperfections of ordinary life cheerful and yet share and teach the finer positive aspects of life.

On the occasion of Shri Yogendraji’s birth anniversary, I would like to go down the memory lane to pay tribute to our Founder who believed that Yoga could actually help improve the lives of householders. With the blessings of his Guru, Shri Paramhamsa Madhavadasji, Yogendraji went on to spread the secret knowledge of Yoga among the masses and spearheaded the ‘Yoga for the Householder’ movement in the world. Born in 1897, Shri Yogendraji was an unassuming man of untold yogic powers. It is for good reason that Shri Yogendraji is hailed as the Father of the Renaissance in India and the world over.

On December 25, 1918, Shri Yogendraji established which is all set to step into its 100th year in December 2017! He conducted deep scientific research to simplify the tough Hatha Yoga techniques for the benefit of the common man. Three of Shri Yogendraji’ books, enumerating his research findings, have been selected by a committee of experts as the world’s most authentic source of Yoga wisdom and preserved in the Crypt of Civilisation which will be opened 6,000 years from now.

This month’s issue pays ode to our Founder and Householder Yogi. To mark Children’s Day which is celebrated on14th November in India, we bring to attention the Institute's Yoga classes for Children. Since Yoga provides a relief from the performance demands that the children face every day on all fronts, many children from various schools enjoy learning and practicing Yoga at the Institute.

Our practice on the mat helps us live a better life off the mat!
